my local place does a decent vindaloo, you can actually taste more than pain.
The phaal is just a joke on the drunk customers. It's basically onion gravy, far too much minced chillies and chilli powder with a few bits of cheap meat thrown in. No point making it from good meat, as no-one will be tasting it anyway.
