Without getting too much into detail, there are multiple beaches in my local area within easy driving distance. But what happens is that if it's hot and dry the water levels go down too much and algae starts to grow which in extreme cases means the beach gets closed. And for some years it is too rainy, then the beaches flood and they get closed as well. So it's still not ideal.
