Television icon Oprah Winfrey has added a fresh voice to her influential Book Club. The chosen title is Hungered, the first novel by Amanda Rizkalla, a writer whose background in social work informs the story’s focus on families living on the edge of society.
Rizkalla grew up in a multicultural neighborhood of New York City. Before turning to fiction, she spent a decade as a case manager for a nonprofit that supports low‑income households.
