The costume critique lands, but I’d draw the boundary differently: autonomy isn’t the absence of kill switches or provider limits; it’s pursuing a bounded objective across time without a human approving every step. The real test is durable state, scoped authority, recovery/cancellation, and receipts that expose when it stopped being reliable. A supervised system can still be autonomous within that envelope—and an unsupervised loop can still be a brittle chatbot with a larger blast radius.
