quotingRami Korhonen has sung in the Finnish melodic punk band Fumble since the early nineties. One of their songs opens an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. A few years ago, on long business trips in the Middle East, he picked up a guitar he found in a rented apartment and started writing songs about Bitcoin, with one rule: the songs never say the word. He calls it acoustic pleb rock. The project is The Higher Low.

In this episode, Bitcoin For The Arts founder Dion Wilson sits down with Rami to trace the whole road: seeing the Ramones in Helsinki at sixteen, thirty years of DIY punk, recording twelve songs in one four-hour session over a Christmas break, the Bitcoin Beats invitation that turned them into the album Node To Freedom, and opening Bitcoin conference stages with one voice and one guitar.
He explains why his songs carry more than one meaning, what the name The Higher Low really means, the campfire test every song has to pass, and why he misses the freedom-tech spirit of Bitcoin's early culture. He tells the story of Knut Svanholm jumping on the drums at Baltic Honeybadger in Riga, writing Freedom Engine in El Zonte, handing his acoustic songs to Jesperi Mommo and the band for Freedom In the Digital Age, and crowdfunding the vinyl on Geyser.
His sats from music are never spent. "One day it's going to be enough to do another album."
