yeah, amsterdam is similar. there is a lot of cost overhead associated with maintaining it. and dutch architecture is much more economical and less decorative than the venetian style.
personally, i am not impressed by the whole thing. i like underground and forest-integrated structures. like, Petra is much more interesting to me, and that underground city in turkey. architecture that is marked by the violence of the state isn't as cool as stuff that appears to be a defense against it.
