On Saturday morning, emergency services responded to a call at an apartment block on Cardigan Street in Carlton. The building, located in Melbourne’s inner north, houses a mix of students and young professionals. At approximately 1.45am, officers entered a fifth floor unit and found the body of a young Indigenous woman.
Police identified the victim as Jayda Allen Bonner, a 21 year old resident of the suburb. The coroner’s office later confirmed that the cause of death was homicide. A 31 year old male was arrested later that day and charged with murder. The police statement can be read in full on the Victoria Police website.
