Shoot me but I don’t think Monero replaces lightning for day to day transactions. Hell, not even lightning appears to be up to the task.
My first experience with Monero didn’t scream speed. Faster than bitcoin? Maybe, but I wouldn’t be able to confirm because cake wallet defaulted to some excruciatingly slow tor setup but even disabling tor didn’t seem to do much (and that was on a landline fiber connection).
“Sovereign” mobile lightning setups still rely on a third party for liquidity so the extra network traffic really seems not worth it compared to just using, I don’t know, spark or cashu.
Whenever I bring up the network problem some people say that “in theory you only need the merchant to be online since the costumer could presign the transaction locally and the merchant could publish and validate said transaction” but I’m not aware of a single wallet setup that implements anything close to that outside of the Cashu ecosystem.
