Some people think God just dreamed up a bunch of rules to make everyone miserable, but the real reason God gave the Ten Commandments is because He loves you and wants you to have a better life. But here’s something you might not have thought about: did you know that there’s a direct correlation between obedience and answered prayer? The Bible says in 1 John 3:22, “And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” Pay special attention to the part about “because we keep His commandments.” And in Psalm 84:11 we learn, “No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” God couldn’t have made it more plain that His criteria for answered prayer is . . . obedience. When you are praying, and God doesn’t seem to hear, ask yourself, “Am I obedient to God? Is there something in my life that goes against His law? Do I only pray when I want to “use God” to get what I want?” Before putting your requests before God, be obedient! You can start by praying the prayer David prayed in\==lp: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Text: Jeremiah 7:23, Psalm 84:10, Luke 11:28, John 14:21
