Does nostr make sense as infrastructure for self-hosting? #asknostr
I have been trying to set up a home server recently. Getting remote access while not exposing services to the wider web required VPN set up and understanding what can be stored where has been a lengthy journey with plenty of learning so far.
I’ve been left thinking that nostr could make some of these processes simpler, and would love the input of someone who knows what they’re talking about.
- Would not npubs be a very simple way to handle who can access content and encryption?
- Could not a service like photos (say Immich) simply be a nostr client reading photo events only from a (blossom?) server?
- Similar for Nextcloud with file events?
- VPN using nostr VPN?
- Calendar could involve other people through npubs?
- Notes could simply be a nostr client reading note events?
- etc… with access always handled through accepted npubs.
There may be many more examples, or reasons some of these examples are better without #nostr, so please let me know.
It just seems to me that all services speaking the same language would vastly improve interoperability between services. Open standards, better solutions.
