ShartGPT seemed to be drinking too much of Ethereum’s kool aid at first until I called it on its BS. I guess there is a lot of “finality” glazing in the dataset.
Still, Timestamp linking in particular seems to be of the biggest interest:
“The key insight is that Rootstock can use information published in Bitcoin’s independently maintained blockchain to constrain attacks against Rootstock itself.”
And it works without disrupting uptime like Armadillo.
In fact it is Ethereum who has its history tainted by chain reorgs. And finality is nothing more than a RPC tag on a PoS system that, under certain circumstances may lead to accidental hardforks and not knowing which chain to trust from a certain point onwards. That is a bigger problem than plain old DoS.
Another thing to consider is that Rootstock is the oldest (Jan 2018) bitcoin sidechain, which also makes it older than ethereum (!!!) given the PoS migration happened in 2022.
So yeah, liquid is newer (October 2018) and relied on a federation based peg in (while rootstock had permissionless pegins from the start), so the fact that rootstock has no recorded attack attempts (nor incidents like ethereum) seems to be more because of good engineering than not being a big enough target.
