Bitcoin surged to $81,000 on Friday, September 18, as market sentiment improved over the direction of crypto regulation in the United States. The rally also came alongside more than $180 million in short-position liquidations across crypto derivatives markets.
Market sentiment received another boost after the SEC moved to develop alternative rules through its Innovation Exemption policy, aimed at providing greater regulatory certainty for crypto market participants. The CFTC has also submitted a proposal for a new crypto market structure to the White House.
Institutional demand also showed signs of recovery. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $159.5 million in net inflows on September 17, led by BlackRock’s IBIT with around $183.7 million in inflows.
