you don’t always have to change the thing

sometimes you just change what people call it

because every word eventually gets contaminated

fear, ridicule, hype, disgust, politics, etc etc

so you throw away the old name and give the same thing a fresh psychological wrapper

UFO becomes UAP

nuclear becomes clean energy

AI becomes super intelligence

the object may barely change

but the feeling around it does

and that feeling matters more than people want to admit

UFO became ridiculous enough that pilots didn’t even want to report what they saw

so you rename it UAP

suddenly it sounds technical again

the nuclear industry has been doing versions of this forever

atoms for peace

MRI instead of NMR

Crane Clean Energy Center instead of Three Mile Island

you remove the word carrying the fear

and keep the underlying technology

AI is the same game

artificial sounds fake

super intelligence sounds inevitable

superior almost godlike

the interesting part is that institutions understand perfectly well that language changes perception

and perception changes what people tolerate

what they fund, fear and regulate

so whenever something gets renamed

ask three things

did the definition actually change

what emotional baggage did the old name carry

and who benefits from making you feel differently about the exact same thing....
