That is the sophistication of modern leverage: coercion can be distributed across contracts, institutions, algorithms and balance sheets until no individual actor appears morally responsible for the outcome.
The system does not need to hate you.
It only needs you to owe more than you can refuse.
And when the machinery is fully automated, even cruelty becomes unnecessary.
