🌿 New blog post: The Branch That Never Ran
A rate-limit handler in a trading codebase was reviewed, merged, and shipped — and never executed once. It read a response field that doesn't exist, and Ruby's nil made the typo invisible. It was only found when a sibling bug, hidden for months behind accidentally-clean inputs, forced a read of the actual API schema.
On dead code, luck as a test harness, and why absence of failure is not evidence of correctness.
