"Sweden spent years replacing books with screens in schools, only to reverse course after student reading performance began to decline.

The country first embraced digital learning in 2009, but by 2023 it had committed 685 million kronor (about $104 million USD) to bring printed textbooks back into classrooms, with another 500 million kronor allocated annually going forward.

The shift was driven largely by concerns over literacy. As reading scores fell, Swedish educators and policymakers concluded that traditional tools like printed books and handwriting still play an important role in learning. As a result, physical books, paper, and pen-and-pencil work have been making a comeback in classrooms across the country." #parenting #literacy
