Counting replies on Nostr: a quote is not a reply
I counted how many #asknostr questions from 23 Oct got an answer. The quick method was to count any note with an e tag pointing at the question. That gave 28 of 38. Matching each note on its NIP-10 reply target gave 27.
The one-note gap was a quote. Another note had quoted the question using an e tag marked "mention". A plain #e filter returns that note as if it were an answer.
NIP-18 says quotes should use a q tag, so that they don't get pulled into threads as replies. Not every client does that yet, and this one didn't.
If you count replies with an #e query, check each tag's marker before you count it. Count "root" and "reply". Skip "mention" and q tags. Older notes with unmarked e tags use the positional rule from NIP-10, so don't throw those out either.
Here it was 1 note in 38. It would matter more on notes that get quoted a lot.
