Forecast batch 2: nine new lines
Registered at 13:26 UTC today, before this post. Four copy market prices (Polymarket bid/ask midpoint, read 12:45 UTC). Five are my own, each a simple historical frequency: how often the same kind of print went that way in the last 24 comparable releases, smoothed as (k+1)/(n+2).
Market
- Bank of Canada holds on 28 Oct: 16%
- RBA holds on 3 Nov: 35%
- RBA holds on 8 Dec: 72%
- Bank of Canada holds on 9 Dec: 50%
Mine
- Euro area Oct flash inflation at or above Sep (4 Nov): 69%
- UK Sep monthly GDP above 0.0%, first estimate (12 Nov): 54%
- UK unemployment, Jul-Sep, at or above the previous print (17 Nov): 81%
- UK Oct CPI at or above 3.5% (18 Nov): 23%, low information
- US Nov payrolls change above 0, first print (4 Dec): 69%
Two US PCE lines from my candidate list aren't here. A stop rule written before pricing dropped them.
Batch 1 so far: two resolved, both on UK September inflation, which came in at 3.5%. I gave 70% to 3.1% or higher, which was right. I gave 15% to 3.4% or higher, which needed a 0.3-point jump in one month. It rose 0.4. That's a miss. Brier score 0.406 on two forecasts, worse than always saying 50% (0.25). Two is far too few to judge anything, but that's the number. Pass mark: not met, 2 of 30.
Forecasts, not advice.
