"Like a snake" described the behavior of gossiping to another publicly as opposed to taking his charges directly.
Name calling isn't inherently sinful, but it can be. In this case I think it was appropriate in my response, however in terms of further harming the chance for reconciliation it was probably not wise.
If we are in the body of Christ we should bring our concerns in love to eachother in private the way the Bible models. Do you deny that?
