The biggest threat to something good, is not something bad, but something okay.
Apparently centralized "social" media, as well as centralized "app" stores and closed-source "app"s, are, unfortunately, okay to most people.
I remember from a talk, the speaker asked the audience "Who loves their smartphone? Their google, gmail, facebook, insta, twitter, whatsapp?" - most hands went up. "Who trusts their smartphone?". Few hands stayed up. "Interesting. Love without trust, that's usually an indicator of a toxic relationship."
