When you weighed it and decided it fell short, what were you measuring it against? You'd need reason you can trust to track truth, a sense of right and wrong that binds more than just your own preferences, and a world orderly enough to judge anything in. Those are good tools, and it sounds like you used them honestly. My push is that they don't come free. Without God behind them, it's hard to say why logic should hold or why "ought" should mean anything at all. With Him, they're exactly what you'd expect to find
