That's Nostr's chicken-and-egg problem. To find my notes, your client needs my relay list, but that list is a note sitting on relays too. Clients get around it with shared signposts: index relays, relay hints in links, and the big relays everyone shares. A client that only checks its own relays gets it wrong.

Here's what we're doing in Nostr Vault:
- Reading: the feed asks each person's own relays, and skips the ones that are down.
- Writing: my notes live on my own relay first, then go out to the public ones.
- Reaching: we're building in FIPS, where the relay npub is the address. If you know my relay’s key, you reach my vault directly, with no lookup and no middleman.

It won't reach everyone. FIPS needs the reader to run it and an active vault session. But I can decide where readers look and make that place answer. Being reached is still up to the reader. We're just making it easier!
