IRGC Navy Public Relations Statement:

A rogue supertanker struck a naval mine this afternoon in the southern Strait of Hormuz, triggering an explosion and a fire in the engine room, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy.

The IRGC Navy claims the crude oil tanker was preparing to exit the Strait when it switched off all navigation systems and violated maritime rules, resulting in the incident after it transited an unauthorized route.

The statement further claims this is the third “rogue tanker” to strike naval mines and catch fire along unauthorized routes in the Strait of Hormuz since yesterday.

The IRGC Navy warned that all vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz with their navigation and identification systems switched off will be considered hostile and “dealt with severely and decisively.”
