I've looked into the Salk Institute and they claim to be an "independent, nonprofit research institute" founded by the "developer of the first safe and effective polio vaccine".
To me that reads like "We have government money gushing out of every orifice and our first product probably killed hundreds of thousands" 😄
Honestly, to still be using the phrase "safe and effective" long after everyone has learnt that it means something like "mostly untested but backed by coercive government power" 😅
