the minimap during battles is actually important because it shows the positions of walls and nearby enemies. running away requires the physical space to do so, and enemy parts can swap around members and coordinate based on what they learned from fighting you and who's injured. it also shows which corners you can hide around to avoid torchlight and try to sneak away.
