I actually understand you very well. What you describe is pretty much exactly what I feel every time I go back home.

I haven’t lived in Sicily for years. Most of my family still does, so whenever I go back, it only takes a couple of days for those roots, already very deep, to kick in. I feel completely at home.

And then, when it’s time to leave, I often get tears in my eyes. I’ve actually come to call it “Sicily sickness”, that feeling of leaving your land and carrying that ache with you. It happens to me every single time.

I love everything you mentioned: the rural life, the small things, the old traditions, the food, the incredible people and that strange mix between an ancient world and a future that sometimes seems to be missing.

And that’s what hurts the most. Sicily is a gem in the middle of the Mediterranean. So much history, culture and potential, and yet you can also see abandonment, trash, people leaving, and a feeling that something is being lost.

What has always fascinated, and sometimes troubled, me is the incredible contrast. Some of the smartest, deepest and most philosophical people I know come from Sicily. And at the same time, you can encounter the complete opposite. The gap can be enormous.

I think in the end we can only do our part. Changing Sicily is, in a small way, the same thing as trying to change the world.

For me, that means bringing Bitcoin to my little hometown. Showing, in my own small way, that it can actually work, create connections and have a positive impact.

We’re only at the beginning.

But I’m pretty sure we’ll knock a few stones out of our shoes along the way. 🫒⚡️
