Thanks, that makes sense: that round trip through Clave's relay is the weak spot. In my case it kept failing even with good coverage, so I ended up running my own signer on a VPS for my other apps, and I'm keeping Vault with Clave for now. Good to know about the NIP-49 option, a locally encrypted key sounds like the most reliable setup on a phone.
