"Sometimes what you call “just the way I am” is actually a survival response that became familiar.
Maybe you became distant because closeness once hurt. Maybe you became controlling because uncertainty once made you feel unsafe. Maybe you became overly independent because depending on others repeatedly disappointed you. Maybe anger became your armor because vulnerability once felt dangerous.
Triggers have a way of revealing these hidden places.
A certain tone, a delayed reply, rejection, criticism, being ignored, or feeling misunderstood can suddenly bring out a version of you that feels much younger than the moment you are actually in.
That does not make you broken.
It gives you information.
Instead of only asking, “Why did this person upset me so much?” begin asking, “What did this situation touch inside me?”
That question can change your healing.
Because awareness helps you separate your true personality from the defenses you built to survive.
You may not actually be cold.
You may be guarded.
You may not actually be difficult.
You may be afraid of being hurt again.
You may not actually need control.
You may need safety.
Healing is not becoming someone completely different.
It is slowly removing the armor until you can recognize who you were underneath it.
Your triggers are not your identity.
They are often invitations to meet the parts of you that still need understanding, compassion, and healing." #triggers #ShadowWork
