-International Events-
1. Sirens sound in Bahrain as Iran completes second week of strikes against Gulf States: The attack follows Iran's overnight strikes against Kuwait and US military infrastructure in Jordan. Iran's army quickly took responsibility for the strikes, reportedly having targeted the fuel tanks, warehouses, and accommodations of the United States' Sheikh Issa base in Bahrain using drones. (JPost)
2. Ukraine hits Russia’s largest online marketplace, hurting small businesses and bringing the war home: The Ukrainian attacks on the sprawling Russian warehouses produced stark images, with massive pillars of black smoke rising above fires that raged at facilities of Wildberries, the country’s biggest online retailer and its equivalent of Amazon. The strikes are part of Kyiv’s aerial campaign aimed at undermining Russia’s war effort, hurting its economy and making people feel the consequences of the Kremlin’s all-out invasion of Ukraine. (AP)
3. How Trump upended the Saudi nuclear deal less than 24 hours after its signing: As quickly as it was announced, the deal seemed to fall apart. Thursday morning, Trump said in a social media post that the deal was subject to a new condition: Saudi Arabia would have to join the Abraham Accords. Trump also denied that the agreement would allow uranium enrichment. (CNN) (AC-Political maneuvering is subject to, politics.)
-US Events-
1. Trump imposes double-digit tariffs on dozens of countries as his 10% levies are set to expire Friday: Trump is enacting new tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 trading partners that account for roughly 99% of U.S. imports. The updated trade levies are scheduled to take effect as temporary 10% stopgap tariffs expire at 12:01 a.m. on Friday. To implement these new measures, Trump is relying on Section 301 of the Trade Act . (GroundNews)
2. Trump pledge on data center power supplies draws skepticism: President Donald Trump announced a non-binding pledge by U.S. power producers and data centers on Thursday to fund or build energy infrastructure that would meet massive AI-related power needs while shielding consumers from high electricity costs. Trump has been pushing an aggressive build-out of AI-related infrastructure, as part of an economic agenda that includes winning the AI race against China. But data centers' demands on overloaded transmission lines, compounded by the power sector's labor shortages and plant retirements, have made rising energy costs a volatile issue for voters going into November's midterm elections. (Reuters)
3. National Guard deploys as flash floods in West Virginia inundate homes and businesses: Torrential rains caused flash floods in West Virginia that inundated homes and businesses, washed out bridges and led to numerous water rescues. The state’s governor said that some residents were unaccounted for as search operations continued Wednesday. (AP)
-Regulatory and Legal-
1. BitMEX Hit by 623 BTC Lawsuit Amid Closure Plans: BitMEX’s planned shutdown has been followed by a major legal challenge, with the crypto derivatives exchange facing a proposed class action lawsuit accusing the platform of unfair liquidation practices that allegedly cost traders more than 622 BTC. The legal action adds another layer of uncertainty to the final chapter of BitMEX, a platform that once dominated Bitcoin derivatives trading but has faced regulatory pressure, declining market share, and now renewed accusations over its historical operations. (Blockonomi)
-CBDCs/World Currencies/Strategic Reserves-
1. Yen Plummets to Four-Decade Low as Dollar Strengthens Amid Global Uncertainty: The USD/JPY exchange rate maintains levels around 163.90, while Japan’s consumer prices climbed to 1.7% in June. Without more aggressive monetary tightening from the Bank of Japan, the currency’s depreciation trajectory appears set to persist. (Blockonomi)
2. Kazakhstan Moves to Build a National Crypto Reserve Funded by Bitcoin Miners: Kazakhstan has laid out a plan to build a national strategic crypto reserve fed by its bitcoin miners. Together the two measures aim to route mining output and crypto trading through Kazakh infrastructure, with the state taking a share of mined coins for a sovereign reserve. The design turns Kazakhstan’s cheap power and mining base into a channel for state accumulation. (BitcoinMag)
-Institutional Concerns-
1. Bitcoin mining pool Poolin files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy: Singapore-based Bitcoin mining pool Poolin and two of its US affiliates filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a New Jersey court on Wednesday. Poolin’s court filing shows that the mining pool operator has estimated liabilities of $100 million to $500 million, assets of $1 million to $10 million and 10,001 to 25,000 creditors. Poolin and its affiliates are also seeking court approval to sell two West Texas mining sites to Thor CALAP LLC under a proposed $52 million stalking-horse bid. (CoinTelegraph) (AC-Is it appropriate to say the corporate BTC mining industry has collapsed?)
2. Bitcoin ETFs snap 7-day inflow streak with $225M in outflows: After attracting nearly $1 billion over seven trading sessions, US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded their first daily net outflow since July 13. Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $225.2 million in net outflows on Thursday. (CoinTelegraph)
3. The debt clock ticking inside corporate Bitcoin treasuries could force billions back onto the market: The convertible notes, preferred shares, and credit facilities that financed a large share of corporate Bitcoin holdings carry maturities, redemption windows, and dividend dates that determine when a company might need to sell. A payment, redemption, or maturity can force a company to sell Bitcoin on a fixed date, regardless of whether it still believes in the asset's long-term price. The sector has accumulated billions in debt and preferred financing, with maturities concentrated in 2027 and 2028. Roughly 6,400 to 12,900 Bitcoin are at-risk of needing to be sold over the next two years. (CryptoSlate)
-Economic Indicators-
1. US 10Y Yield Holds 2025 Peak: The yield on the US 10-year Treasury note rose to around 4.70% on Friday, marking its fifth consecutive gain and remaining at its highest level since January 2025. (TradingEconomics)
2. US Stocks Fall Sharply: US stocks closed lower on Thursday amid deteriorating macroeconomic backdrop and renewed doubts over AI spending. The S&P 500 dropped 1.2%, the Nasdaq 100 lost 1.9%, and the Dow Jones shed 507 points. (TradingEconomics)
3. US 30-Year Mortgage Rate Edges Up to 6.58%: The average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage in the US edged up to 6.58% as of July 23, 2026, from 6.55% the previous week, marking the fourth consecutive weekly increase. (TradingEconomics)
-Security Concerns-
1. BlackRock, Coinbase and Strategy Pledge $15M | 231 BTC to Quantum-Proof Bitcoin: Nine of the biggest institutional names in Bitcoin formed a consortium to fund the developers working to keep the network secure—including from future quantum computers. The group, called the Bitcoin Security Consortium, includes BlackRock, Coinbase, Strategy, Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, Block, Blockstream, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Galaxy. Day-to-day coordination falls to Mike Schmidt, executive director of Brink—a nonprofit that funds Bitcoin open-source developers—who takes on the role as a volunteer. Each member directs its own money to whatever developers, researchers, or organizations it chooses. The consortium also makes clear it will not push for any specific changes to Bitcoin's code or speak on behalf of its decentralized developer community. The consortium said it plans to publish and maintain updated material on Bitcoin's security in the coming months. (Decrypt) (AC- See below)
-Technology and Science-
1. Brazilian Farmers Are Tokenizing Cows to Get Farm Loans—And It's Working: Ten cows on a dairy farm in Paraná, Brazil, just became the first livestock collateral formally registered on the country's stock exchange. The deal—backed by blockchain-tracked animals wearing AI-powered sensor collars—is a real-world test of whether the crypto world's obsession with tokenizing physical assets can actually help farmers who are running out of options. The cows were "tokenized." Each animal received a unique encrypted digital ID—generated from health, behavioral, and location data captured by smart collars. "With monitoring, that uncertainty is eliminated," said a a banker. The cows are now living collateral for a loan. (Decrypt)

-Bitcoin Sentiment-
1. Fear(0)/Greed(100) Index: 28/100 (Down 5 pts)
Analyst Comments (AC): Yes, even a relatively small consortium focused on Bitcoin's security future is a form of centralization and worthy of distrust by decentralization maxis. In a sense, it's reminiscent of the federalist dialogues at the founding of the USA. What should be centralized, why and how? These are great questions and should be answered well within the new Overton window of powerful technology such as encryption, blockchain and proof-of-work. Engage the process, debate it thoughtfully and respectfully. We all have the same objectives (or do we?) and the differing pathways have consequences to be planned for.
