One of the things I find fascinating is an ancient European story about Prometheus that got fire from the gods gave it for the people and got punished for that.

- the "common era" started around two thousands years ago.
- the ancient Egyptian pyramids were built a few more thousand years prior.
- the oldest known cave paintings are around 67 thousand years old
- modern humans originated around 300 000 years ago in Africa
- the oldest known place where people were manually creating fire is around 400 000 years old Neandertal settlement in modern Great Britain.
- Neanderthals had bigger brains than modern humans by the way, which means that they could be more intelligent old people than us.
- there're places more than a million years old where Homo Erectus were already using fire for cooking so they were likely already able to maintain the fireplace for a long time.

Who knows where in those million (or more) years did the story like this originate from. We will never know. We can't find the evidence for speech if it wasn't written anywhere.

Could it be some Neanderthal sneakily sharing his knowledge to our grandgrandparents? Could it be vocal mythology of Homo Erectus species about a lightning passed for ages?

But it may easily be older than the modern humanity.
