Today I spoke on the phone with my friend who has cancer. She is now in the third of eight treatment cycles, each lasting three weeks. The fact that she still has more than half of them ahead of her is really discouraging for her. I could hear it in her voice as she told me how sick the chemotherapy makes her feel, and how difficult it is to live with the knowledge that she still has such a long way to go.
I could feel what she was going through. And at the same time, she is so incredibly brave. She doesn’t sink into self-pity. I admire her very much. And as our conversation went on, I noticed her mood changing. She gradually became more like the person I know: facing life head-on, proactive, thoughtful, and intelligent 🤍
