Every model starts with assumptions. The scientific method holds its assumptions provisionally and then tests them against the physical universe. It looks for feedback that can be verified both repeatedly and independently. If it can pass these tests, then it can be said to work for everyone and for all of time. It can then also look to find a place as part of a model of physical reality. If the assumption can't be tested, then it cannot be part of a model that describes physical reality. There is nothing stopping it becoming a mental model though, it's just that you can't say that it is universally true for all people for all of time. In this case, starting with God is the assumption. It's also the beginning of a never ending circular argument.
