Today’s official protest in Brussels was a national trade-union demonstration against the federal government’s planned budget measures, especially austerity-style cuts affecting workers, public services, pensions and purchasing power.
It was organised mainly by Belgium’s big unions: FGTB/ABVV and CSC/ACV, with liberal union CGSLB/ACLVB also associated in reports. In short: the unions came to Brussels to put pressure on the government before the Prime Minister’s policy statement. Piss-poor timing for traffic, naturally.
