Ragnarök: The Image That Shall Not Fall

When winter comes without a spring,
And wolves devour the sun,
When ancient gods take up their spears,
And know their days are done—
When Gjallarhorn splits heaven's veil,
And Yggdrasil bends low,
When Odin rides to meet his fate
Through fields of ash and snow—
What hope remains for mortal men
When even gods must die?
What light survives the final flame,
What truth outlives the sky?
For gods of thunder, gods of war,
Though terrible and bright,
Are shadows cast by something more,
Beyond the reach of night.
No hammer forged in Asgard's halls,
No sword of earthly kings,
Can claim the soul that bears the mark
Of Him who fashioned things.
For man was made of mortal clay,
Yet crowned with sacred breath;
An image of the Living God,
Who calls him out of death.
And sovereignty is not the boast
That none shall rule my will;
It is the freedom to choose truth
When all the world stands still.
Let empires fall and idols burn,
Let proud Valhalla fade;
The image stamped upon the soul
Was not by idols made.
And when the serpent coils the earth,
And all the stars grow dim,
The sovereign soul shall bend the knee—
But only unto Him.
Yet what of those who raised their swords
Against the light of day?
Can fire consume the chains of pride
And burn the sin away?
For Ragnarök is not the end,
Nor judgment's fire the last;
The One who calls the dead by name
Has not forgotten the past.
So let the winter have its hour,
Let ancient mountains fall;
The One who made the stars from naught
Shall yet be all in all.
And when the final horn is still,
And death has lost its claim,
The image bearer rises free,
And answers to his name.
