these open source freedom tech ai projects should maybe look at optimizing for his workflow. all that token spend is going to claude. it should be flowing through open platforms first. 👀

Generally speaking, a nexus is a central node that connects other nodes within a graph.
In Starcraft, the Nexus is the Protoss home base building. It is the key structure required to bootstrap a self-sustaining production economy. Once the nexus is constructed you can open portals to other realms and warp in robotic worker drones. These drones not only harvest raw materials, but they also warp in additional structures and units. Once you have a Nexus, you can traverse the tech tree and build anything that is possible within the game universe...if you can defend your claim from attackers.
For the past month or two I have been building a self-sovereign nix-based architecture for agentic coding and privacy tasks. As of today, nexus is the hostname of the bare metal NixOS installation. I just migrated from the default `nixos` hostname to `nexus`. It's just two vowels apart. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
Once installed and configured, nexus knows how to launch declaratively defined agentic coding development environments with the push of a button. Nexus lets you open ssh portals to virtual realms populated with ai-powered worker drones and a minimal, flexible agent harness. Once your nexus is built you can warp in worker drones to help you traverse the tech tree and build anything that is possible within this computing universe...if you can defend your digital claim from attackers.
VM sandboxes are a stronger security barrier than containers because the VM does not share a kernel with the host machine. This protects against two classes of security risk: rogue agents and software supply chain attacks. The VM keeps you safe from claude gone rogue and from hostile npm package updates. It's also really handy for privacy sandboxes to do self-sovereign financial stuff or to shitpost on nostr.
I'm going to use it to build mining pools. 🙂

Ecash is beautifully elegant because of it's simplicity. There is one secret for each ecash token. The wallet holds the secret. When you transfer ecash you give someone else the secret, they generate a new secret and swap the old secret for the new one at the mint. The mint never knows the secret until it is redeemed. So for each ecash token there is exactly one secret stored in exactly one place.
Totally trusted. Perfectly secret. I believe it is the perfect complement to bitcoin.

Lightning is interesting as well. It has a similar privacy strategy to Monero. Lightning transactions break up information into lots of tiny pieces and spread them around so that it is exceedingly hard to reassemble all the pieces. But not impossible!
If you were able to grep the logs of every lightning node involved in a specific transaction you could pretty trivially identify the sender, receiver, and amount.
Even bolt12 transactions with route blinding are not immune to this attack. Fortunately it's a very difficult thing to accomplish and not worth the effort for the small amounts of value transmitted via lightning.
@nprofile…eg3s gave a brief talk complaining about lightning node logging practices because he understands this property of lightning. If node operators purged their logs on a regular basis then that information goes away forever. Unfortunately this is not the default behavior. Hopefully that changes.

I have always liked Monero better. It uses complex mixing techniques at spend time to break information into lots of little pieces and spread them around on-chain.
(I am not a cryptographer or a Monero expert so don't take my word for truth. This is my flawed high level understanding of the system.)
When you spend monero your wallet generates a ring signature with random addresses from the blockchain. This strategy is basically to make it exceedingly hard to reassemble that information in a way that can be used to identify the spender. You would have to find the owners of all the addresses in the ring signature and use the process of elimination to identify the true spender. That's really hard to do!
This is a robust privacy system that works in practice. Notice it spreads the trust among many participants. The genius of the system is they are randomly selected from past transactions non-interactively. So they don't need to be online or even be aware that their coins are contributing to someone else's anonymity.
The downside of this system is it's complexity. Monero can't do anything even close to smart contracts.
The trust assumptions are also siloed in a single system. That could be a problem if/when that system is broken. Monero devs are aware of this fact and have been continuously upgrading it's privacy properties for the entire history of the project. It's an arms race. Those devs are elite endurance athletes. Mad respect.

Zcash is the combination of a transparent trustless system and an opaque private system.
Their mistake was to silo all of the trust in their privacy system. Single point of failure. Not resilient.
AI came along and...it failed. 💥
No more zcash. 🫗

RIP to everyone building on top of lightning. 🪦

2026-06-05 18:18:01 UTC

On-chain bitcoin is transparent for a reason. It's the only way to ensure trustlessness. Watch privacy coins learn this lesson in real time. Learn from their mistakes.
I believe there is a fundamental and unavoidable conflict between privacy and trustlessness. Trustless systems require information to disseminate. Private systems must prevent the spread of information. Builders who don't understand this spectrum are doomed to fall prey to it.
You cannot achieve perfect privacy and perfect trustlessness in the same system. It's better to build two systems and move value between them as needed. The trust-based system better be resilient to failure; that means lots of little trusted operators rather than one big trust silo.
That's what I tried to encapsulate in this image. TBD whether ecash can be made verifiable. Much work still to be done.

Not sure I understand the proposal. Is the coinbase a secret from the miners? How does the miner validate that the coinbase of the template they are mining on is not robbing them.
Does this scheme require a single coinbase output? This effectively rules out non-custodial mining unless we first activate CTV.
In general I think block withholding attacks are a minor problem, probably not worth a soft fork until it is demonstrated to be a significant problem.
Also, I think the solution is really simple and requires no consensus change at all: just pay a bonus for the block winning share.
Parasite Pool is immune to block withholding attacks because the block winning miner takes home 1 btc.
