1/ Tomorrow it's been a month since we shut down @lnp2pBot. I finished the forensics and I don't love what I found. The bug they used wasn't in our code. It was in a dependency. And the fix had been out for 3 days already.
2/ The library is `invoices`, the BOLT11 parser half the Lightning JS ecosystem depends on. If a payment request had the payment hash twice, the parser kept the last one. The node uses the first one. Same string, two parts of the same system, two different IDs.
3/ In plain terms: the attacker sent us an invoice our bot and our node read differently, and got paid twice for the same thing. The bot was tracking one payment. The node had settled another. Every round they ran, we ate the difference.
4/ That line had been there for 2,381 days. It went in with the very first commit of the repo, back in January 2020. There was never a version of the library without it.
5/ It got fixed on August 7, and it was pushed down to `lightning` and `ln-service` the same day. I want to say that up front, because it's true and it matters: the fix itself was fast and handled well.
6/ What went wrong was the announcement. Here is the entire changelog entry for that release:
"Breaking Changes , Node.js version 22 or higher is now required"
Not a word about the payment hash. No advisory. No CVE.
7/ Now put yourself downstream. A major version lands and it wants you to go from Node 20 to Node 22. You read that as chores. You put it on the list for when things calm down. The only signal you had was pushing you to wait.
8/ This is the part I want to change, and it isn't about one person: a security fix can't ride along inside a breaking infra change. It has to say so out loud. An advisory, a line in the changelog, a ping to the people who depend on you.
9/ Without that, reading changelogs doesn't save you. We had no way to know we were supposed to run. We found out 3 days late, with the bot already closed and the losses on us.
10/ What we're building on Mostro now: event-driven watching on the dependencies that matter. New version drops, an agent diffs it right then, and answers one question, does this quietly fix something security related?
Against a 3 day window, a weekly check has already lost.
11/ A month later I'm still going through it. Full story at @LaBitconf
https://github.com/alexbosworth/invoices/commit/b30a012c7a3d2f5df0a8175b2aba4ef6f4601cf7#diff-06572a96a58dc510037d5efa622f9bec8519bc1beab13c9f251e97e657a9d4ed

Today #github suspended the account of Mostronator, my #OpenClaw agent. Even those you least expect can resist change and take absurd measures.
In just 11 days, Mostronator efficiently contributed to the @nprofile…r8lk and @lnp2pBot projects — a highly efficient human would need at least 3 months to deliver that level of contribution.
It also started two of its own projects, which are very valuable to the Mostro organization.
We’re going to have to build a new GitHub on Nostr — and powered by AI, so it stings even more.

I can give my opinion on the tool I use, specially when I paid the premium service and suddenly I cant use it anymore because of a bottleneck bug that affects people from Argentina, freedom of speech ✌️

2026-01-13 12:49:01 UTC

Primal is a nostr service, nostr goal is to fight censorship by removing the single point of failure, but primal is working exclusively as a SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE, I have days trying to use it from Argentina and it doesn't work, it's also impossible to connect directly to the relays I want because everything pases through a cache service which is the SPF
This is not how nostr should be use it, if you want to add a SPF feature make it optional but not the only one, otherwise primal can be easily censored on authoritarian regimes

I coded a minimalist peer-to-peer chat application written in Rust utilizing the Nostr protocol for decentralized and secure communications.
In this demo we can see how an observer can see the conversation between parts if one of them share the shared key
We are implementing it to allow a dispute solver have the option to look the conversation only if it is necessary to have a better understanding of the situation and make the best decision.
More info here:

https://m.primal.net/Pmqq.mp4

2025-03-14 15:12:29 UTC

After many discussions and a lot of trial and error, we finally have a simple and efficient way to allow an admin to intervene in dispute resolution.
I just uploaded a repository explaining how Mostro clients handle chat between users. We use a Diffie-Hellman shared key between the two parties as a master key, which either party can voluntarily share with the solver in case of a dispute. This way, the solver can verify who is lying.
For the curious, the repository technically explains how it works and includes sample code. I’m currently implementing it in mostro-cli, and I hope to add it to Mostro’s official documentation today. @nprofile…3u36 client builders can now implement user chat without worrying about changes—this will be the scheme we’ll stick to.

We have months working on rotating keys on Mostro to improve privacy, today we just merged the code implementation 🥳
Give it a look here:
https://mostro.network/protocol/key_management.html

2024-09-13 21:05:23 UTC

Hey everyone I'm implementing nip59 to @npub1m0s…40un which will allows more privacy to users, I'm thinking how to keep privacy and still allow users to be rated and share their reputation.
Here's an idea that came to me today
Clients will always use a new ephemeral key for each new order, the user who wants to maintain reputation can send an event to Mostro signed with each ephemeral key used to update their rating.
Example 01:
* Alice uses the automatically generated key abc to create a sale order
* Bob takes the order, they finish the operation
* Each one rated the counterparty
Example 02:
* Alice wants to make another sale, the client automatically generates the key xyz
* The client automatically sends a message to Mostro signed with the key xyz and the internal content signed with the key abc, this way Mostro knows that the user of xyz is also the user of abc
* Alice creates the order with the key xyz and Mostro shows the reputation obtained with abc
* Carol takes the order
* They finish the operation
* Each one rated the counterparty

We are working @npub1m0s…40un but our work is going much more than one p2p platform on top of nostr, we want to integrate all p2p #Bitcoin platforms to have a big pool of orders on Nostr.
It's working right now with Mostro and @lnp2pbot
If you run the command /nostr on the bot you will get the npub of the bot

We have a new Mostro version 0.10.0, we put a lot of work on this version, a huge refactoring of mostro core library and Mostro daemon changing from our specs from camel case to kebab case, you can see the final version is our documentation site.
Another important feature is that now buyers that had an issue getting their payment can add a new invoice to get their funds back, so far this is only available on mostro-cli but it will be working pretty soon on mostro web

🚨 HOW TO TEST MOSTRO? 🚨
- You must have a Nostr profile, and a lightning network wallet
- Until now there are two clients to test: a web client, and mostro-cli which is a command line interface tool
- Everything is Open Source, you can find all code repositories here: https://github.com/MostroP2P
🎯 Web client
https://mostro.bilthon.dev/
- You must logging with your Nostr Signer Extension (nip 07), if you don't have one https://getalby.com is a great one
- Then you can create or take orders, and continue the instructions, it is very intuitive!
💻 Mostro-cli
1) Install Rust (https://www.rust-lang.org/tools/install)
2) Install OS dependencies (debian and debian flavors)
```bash
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install -y cmake build-essential pkg-config libssl-dev
```
3) You must set the environment variables NSEC_PRIVKEY, MOSTRO_PUBKEY and RELAYS. This is one way to do it:
```bash
$ export NSEC_PRIVKEY=nsec1.... (Your nsec)
$ export MOSTRO_PUBKEY=npub1ykvsmrmw2hk7jgxgy64zr8tfkx4nnjhq9eyfxdlg3caha3ph0skq6jr3z0
$ export RELAYS='wss://nostr.bilthon.dev,wss://nostr.wine,wss://btc.klendazu.com,wss://nos.lol,wss://relay.damus.io,wss://nostr-pub.wellorder.net'
```
4) If everything is ok you will see the Mostro orders if you write:
$ mostro-cli listorders
⚡️ Example to create a sell order in mostro-cli:
$ mostro-cli neworder -k sell -c usd -f 1 -m cash
👨‍💻 Mostro is FOSS, please you are welcome to contribute whit this Bitcoin p2p exchange without KYC to help all bitcoiners and Nostr users

#Bitcoin is a political movement, not necessarily partisan, that proposes an alternative system to the dominant system of the last few decades. This proposal grants citizens sovereignty and freedom.
For the first time in many years, citizens can protect themselves from poor economic decisions made by a handful of people who control power.
Today, workers can choose Bitcoin as their currency and preserve the value of what they have earned through their work and effort. Today, we have another option.
Those who control power know what they are doing very well. They understand that monetary issuance benefits them and disadvantages the entire population. They will not stop doing it willingly, and they will not stop doing it forcefully either because they hold a monopoly on weapons.
For the first time in our modern history, citizens have a means to carry out a non-violent revolution without shedding a single drop of blood.
Bitcoin enables us to pursue a peaceful revolution and prevent those in power from using government money as a political tool for their own gain.
Bitcoin is freedom.

2023-05-02 14:11:37 UTC

I just pushed some logic for disputes, now users can start a dispute with mostro-cli (cargo install mostro-cli) with command dispute, still is not finished the dispute logic but now it saves to database when a dispute is started, so we can look on db and solve it.
Now I will finish this one and we are ready to start to test on production, testers be ready to try Mostro pretty soon.
After this we will fix all bugs users send us, but still have more issues to do, for example now mostro can only be managed by the owner of the mostro private key, we need to add the option to allow other private keys to do stuff like solve a dispute for example, we are getting closer and closer.

Mostro development state:
The core functionality is working great, we are working now on the little details like how and when users can cancel orders, allow unilateral cancel for Pending orders and cooperative cancel for active orders.
Adding dispute logic, here we need to allow delegate other users to be dispute solvers
Adding reputation system, instead of saving this data locally we think we should send events to keep track of users reputation and keep it public

We are looking for help on development but also to have a decent website

if you want to do a matial art that also keeps you safe in a potential situation of danger go for BJJ, if you want to a martial art just because you want to keep you active or like acrobatic kicks or something else go and do whatever you want.
but don't buy that krav maga is an effective self defense system

I'm strongly against rich people have better opinion.
The case of a poll where the one with more money can manipulate the results is not an attractive idea to me

Once someone told me that instead of having the current democratic system we should be ruled by most capitalized CEOs because they know how to get profit.
Imagine living under an Elon Musk dictatorship, one day puts a 🐶 on twitter logo the next day send you to the wall just because he can do it.
I don't want to see that dog anymore, today is all on #Nostr
