Omarchy Mobile quick demo. Recorded on my Pixel 7 Pro running Omarchy! (In before you didn't show <insert feature here.>)

Omandroid has a new name: Omarchy Mobile 📱
It was never Android. It's native Omarchy (Arch Linux ARM, Hyprland, Omarchy's own packages) on a mainline Linux kernel, right on a Pixel 7 Pro. No Android underneath.
New repos (old links redirect):
https://github.com/derekross/omarchy-mobile
https://github.com/derekross/linux-omarchy-mobile
Hardware: display at 120 Hz, GPU, touch, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth audio, battery, haptics, torch, sensors and auto-rotate, GPS, NFC (read/write tags) and fingerprint unlock (opt-in) all work. Speakers work but are still quiet. Ultrawide camera works; main and front are in progress. The modem now boots and talks to the phone; calls, SMS and data need a SIM, that's next. Sleep is in progress.
The last two days in software:
• swipeable home screens with ~50 built-in widgets, from @simonschubert's Omalauncher
• "Create with AI": describe a widget, Omarchy's default agent builds it
• editable quick settings
• one app per screen
• mirror the phone's screen to your laptop over USB
And an installer! I'm super happy to annonce this. It can all be done with a few commands. GUI/website later. Build the root image on your laptop, then tools/install-phone asks for your user name, password and Wi-Fi, checks the phone, and writes only slot B and userdata. Stock Android stays on slot A as your way back. First boot sets everything up, and tools/phone-provision pulls the phone-specific firmware from your own Pixel factory image (no Google files redistributed). The first clean install with it is happening on my phone as I write this. Steps are in the README.
Fair warning: this is EXPERIMENTAL! Unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone, expect rough edges, Pixel 7 Pro only for now. Pixel 6 and 8a ports are starting via contributors. Addtional contributors welcome 🤙

Omandroid: work-in-progress update 🧪📱
Native Omarchy running on a Pixel 7 Pro: Arch Linux ARM, Hyprland and Omarchy's own packages, on a mainline Linux kernel. No Android underneath.
Hardware working
- Boots our own mainline kernel (7.3-rc) from the second boot slot, with stock Android kept on the other slot
- Display (1440×3120 OLED) with brightness control
- GPU: Mali-G710 with OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.4 through Mesa (we added the G710 to Mesa's Panfrost driver), Hyprland renders on it, and the GPU now scales its clock with load
- Wi-Fi: connects at boot and reconnects to saved networks, ~150 Mbit/s
- Bluetooth: pairing and audio, with the first sound from the phone playing through Pixel Buds Pro
- Vibration for system feedback
- Flashlight
- Charging under Linux control (in testing), past the bootloader's 93% cutoff
- Touchscreen with multi-touch
- Power and volume buttons
- Battery level in the status bar
- Internal storage, with the system partitions locked read-only
- USB networking and SSH
Software working
- Omarchy themes, the menu, the notification shade and the Omarchy boot animation
- Android-style Wi-Fi and Bluetooth menus: pick a network and type its password, pair and connect devices
- Flashlight toggle in quick settings
- A phone-style home screen and launcher with app search and "ask your agent"
- On-screen keyboard
- App switcher: swipe up, tap to switch, flick to close
- Lock screen with a PIN pad: locks after boot and after the screensaver
- Power + volume down takes a screenshot
- Apps open full screen, like on Android
- Kernel updates installed from inside Linux
Next up: speakers and mics (they run through Google's audio processor), suspend, 120 Hz, then camera, cellular, GPS and Android apps through Waydroid.
Video later :)

2026-10-11 17:54:57 UTC

You too can have "Omarchy" on your Android phone. It's easy to get started.
Install Omalauncher by Simon Schubert: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.omalauncher
Make it your default home screen. Follow the prompts to install Arch Linux, no root needed. Every Linux window gets its own card in Recents.
Install your favorite agent: Claude Code, OpenCode, or Codex. They run in a real terminal on your phone.
Customize your home screen widgets. Then write your own in OWL, right on the phone.
Build just like you would on full-blown Omarchy. Own the computer, no matter how small.
I view this as a PoC. More to come.

While Nostr has no CEO, you all have jokingly called me one for years. It's a funny meme and a nice gag as there is no CEO of a protocol. But I understand why you say it, and it comes from a position of love and appreciation. It means my work is visible and appreciated, and I don't take that lightly. Thank you all for your love and support over the years. 🫂💜🤙🏻
So here's what I'm thinking. I'm going on a cruise and will be mostly away from the Nostr. For the next #TwoWeeks while I'm away, I want to use that time to turn the "Two Weeks" meme into reality! It's time to SHIP! Both for ME and for YOU!
The challenge: Build something that grows Nostr.
Reply to this note with what you've built by August 27th. That gives me a nice stack of apps to review, test, and demo when I'm back on land.
Three categories:
🏗️ Community Building
Build something that brings Nostr users together or helps newcomers find their footing. Meetup tools, onboarding flows, community directories, event organizers, education resources. Make it easier to be a Nostrich. If it were me, I'd do something with Concord and "Private Nostr". I would think small. Tools for small communities.
💰 Sustainable Revenue
Build something on Nostr that makes money. Real revenue, not vibes and micro payments. Lightning native commerce, subscriptions, marketplaces, creator monetization tools, paid content, SaaS on Nostr. Show that the economics work. If it were me, I'd probably build something that indie musicians need. Bonus for fiat rails.
📈 User Growth
Build something that makes people want to join Nostr. Killer features, more bridge tools, AI tools that use Buzz's AI specs, or that one app that makes your friends go "wait, what app is that?" Be the purple pill. If it were me, I'd probably build on Concord and build a private stories app. People love disappearing stories and if they're private and encrypted, all the better.
Rules:
• It has to be new (not something you already shipped).
• It has to use Nostr (obviously).
• It has to be open source.
• Reply to this note with your submission so they're all in one place.
• Apps, tools, bots, integrations, NIP implementations, all fair game here!
Prizes 🏆
100,000 sats from me, split across the best builds in each category. Plus, every sat zapped to this announcement note goes into the prize pool too. So if you think the bounty should be bigger, zap this post and make it bigger. 💜⚡
Winners announced after I'm back on land (August 27th). I'll review, demo, and zap the standout builds live. Perhaps I'll even do all of this on a live stream to make it more fun? 👀
Two weeks. No CEO (well, we've never had one). No rules (well, a few). Just building and vibing the future of social communication.
Show me what this community can do.
Reply with your build by August 27th. I'll be back and ready to test everything out!
I love you all and I'll see you in #TwoWeeks

Why I Run Linux
I've worked in IT for 20+ years. Windows domains, macOS fleets, massive enterprise ERPs, large scale enterprise virtual environments. I've seen every flavor of locked down, vendor-controlled computing there is.
I run Linux because I don't like asking permission.
When I want software, I type one command. When something breaks, I read the logs and fix it. No support tickets or vendors. If things go sideways, I now have agents, which are better Linux administrators than I could have ever have dreamed of becoming.
My OS doesn't spy on me. Doesn't show ads in the start menu. Doesn't force updates on its schedule. Doesn't declare my hardware "unsupported" because a marketing team wants me to buy new gear.
All of my various servers have been running Ubuntu for years. I also use Docker spin up what I need.
But the real reason is philosophical. Linux is the Bitcoin of operating systems.
Open. Auditable. Community-owned. No CEO. No shareholders. No data harvesting business model hiding behind a glossy interface. Just software that does what it says, built by people who give a damn.
You can't build a censorship resistant internet on a closed source OS. And you can't preach decentralization while your whole digital life runs through Redmond or Cupertino.
I run Linux because the tools of freedom have to be free.

2026-05-20 16:00:28 UTC

I've never used Monero and don't know anything about it at all. It's more private somehow. I guess? Anyways, the urge to build a Nostr app with Monero via Shakespeare, just to show that it can be done, is rising.

Vibe coding enables people to turn their ideas into full blown applications for a mere fraction of the cost of hiring a software engineer. The more tools we have to facilitate everyone's vision for freedom technology, the more realizations of freedom that we'll have.

An increase of spam sucks, but it also means that we're moving from the underdog state to a more relevant state worthy of time and effort from more people.
