Can you send some that are available, thank you!
I think people care about many things but convenience is a real force to be reckoned with in an age where we're all so busy and burnt. people just want stuff that works.
It's also that these things are niche. I care about this stuff and I don't know what exists that you reference.
Also most people I talk to only have a faint idea of how much their tech spies on them, most people are not very tech literate.
I would like to believe that people will resist these things given the knowledge and means to do so. "Human nature" is a vague generalization that says more about the person saying it than anything else, but I do see your point.
Please let me know your thoughts!

someone needs to make a private alternative to ring cameras that is open source, uses open hardware, and can only be accessed via something like wireguard.
too many people getting surveillance state nonsense just bc they need some cctv or whatever.
what are your thoughts?

@npub1gnw…errq Hi Sovit! I forked keytr and made passkey support for Pubky using your NIP-K2 spec. After some feedback, it has come to my attention that using KiH is actually quite insecure.
Please look at this discussion for details: https://pubky.app/post/cg991c3itgsgbqj34uoisy8gf7a5oinsw76xxek6outsfu577fro/003575G34P5W0
here is my repo if you'd like to take a look!
https://codeberg.org/opensourcery/pubky-passky
I am looking into alternatives. I am thinking a potential solution could be for the user to provide a passphrase which will then encrypt the key and the encrypted key will be placed in the user.id
Please let me know your thoughts!

Everything is on the DHT so can't you just have your own indexer/aggregator? Like sure even if the Nexus phones home and can filter stuff, what's stopping someone from forking and making their own for use with a client?
Yes, the nexus can act as a point of censorship, but so can any Nostr client too, they just need to filter certain pubkeys or content or whatever.
Even if the flagship Pubky app is censored to shit, you can still use other clients with other independent indexers, no?
Please let me know your thoughts :)

I do really like the ideas Pubky brings to the table like having full control of where your data lives with homeservers and PKARR, having the ability to index the global state with DHT, being able to use files instead of events, etc. Cool stuff!
But also things do feel a bit opaque. Seeing the homeserver code for a Google bucket config is a little worrisome, just because it is not stated if your data on the official Pubky homeserver you sign up with on the Pubky App is really just stored on Google or how that's managed.
The docs cover PKARR a lot but there doesn't seem to be many details about the PKARR relays that are needed to run the system. Are those censorship resistant even?
I am excited about decentralized protocols and I want to build with tools that give people the most freedoms and control over their data. I feel Pubky does right on a lot of Nostr's shortcomings, but I don't want to commit to building on Pubky without being confident in its direction and current standing.
What do you think?

Public stuff gets the most attention! also given network effects, it makes the most sense to get every user in one place, especially at the beginning.
Looking forward to what Pubky does for private stuff and how E2EE stuff on Pubky will work, esp with Pubky Noise https://pubky.org/explore/technologies/pubky-noise/

pretty sure the friction is just to sign up for Pubky's homeserver, not the protocol itself. Unfortunately, the homeserver implementation is just a rust package at the moment, but like john said, that is in the works!

2026-05-23 15:20:33 UTC

Sure, but doesn't the client need to know which relay your NIP-65 data is on to even do that in the first place? Yeah you could manually type that in, but that just feels like bad UX, and also limits what new users and normies would be able to do and find. If we had DHT, wouldn't this indexing problem be fixed?
Also how many clients actually do utilize outbox?

2026-05-23 15:13:00 UTC

- reply

I mean so many apps on here already Do rely on a global state. Unless your client pulls from a huge predefined relay, you won't see a lot of data or know where to look for user information if they start using your client. You Could provide a list of relays you prefer, but who's spending the time to do that?
Also, things can exist in community contexts still, it just means that client might not rely on the DHT.
You're right that in many cases, it would disincentivize Outbox model stuff, but that implementation is up to clients, and I think DHT would probably be used for querying global stuff and posting stuff and whatnot would use your specified relays.
I think DHT would be a great approach for this, it doesn't take away that you use certain relays for whatever purpose, just makes information and account indexing a lot easier and prevents centralization on a relay level.
Let me know your thoughts :)

@npub180c…h6w6 Using your nostrlib Go library and I believe I ran into a bug.
Using pool.FetchManyNotifyClosed(), the events channel does not transmit any data, the connection is closed before it can get any events, even though the connection to the relay is successful.
This issue is not present in pool.FetchMany() and I am able to receive events no problem.
Please let me know your thoughts!

Yes, Nostr is not perfect by any means, and for what it aimed to succeed (ActivityPub, AT Proto), it has done an incredible job.
People do make things decentralized, but what they make and what they spend their time fixing is dependent on the protocol their programs are based on.
If a protocol has some level of centralization, in order to make something have less centralization, they will need to spend extra time making programs and tools to remedy that.
I think as time goes on, things will become more consolidated and centralized, and if we are spending the energy building an operating system, I think we should take into account the centralization baked in and improve upon the protocol at its root. What do you think?
