I'd be a short-sighted hypocrite if I rejected the same four women. One solution to avoiding abortions could be forced castration for some category of men to prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place... E.g. any man unable to provide for a baby caught having sex gets a forced vasectomy. It will prevent abortions, so will you support such a rule?

Abortions are horrible and I personally don't know any woman who would light heartedly go for one. If nothing else, they are a risk to their health and can seriously impact future pregnancies and the ability to have kids. I am all for supporting women to make abortions a much less likely choice (education, money, housing, whatever), but I remain against banning them.

Anyway, I looked at it:

The definition of slavery has changed greatly. The graph in that article is titled "More than 40m people are working in slave-like conditions". Working in slave-LIKE conditions does not equal being a slave on a plantation 200 years ago.

The numbers still don't add up. May be in absolute figures there are more people in slave-LIKE conditions today than before, but as a percentage of all people it is 3-5x less.

My main point is that articles like this, between the lines and in a somewhat counterintuitive way make the point of slave owners from before: that slavery is a "natural law" and has always existed and will always exist. That is obviously false. Slaves dying for the entertainment of others was a headline public event in ancient Rome. It is not today.

I used Session for a while, followed the project and bought their coin too... then it all went pearshaped. No longer trust the team I'm afraid, and session is just for chat, I need calls.

I still run a Matrix server and for a while had friends and family on it, but they kept complaining that it doesn't ring etc. If you dig into Github issues, there are a few key ones that keep getting ignored - including an encryption weakness last I checked.

Signal is easy to recommend to anyone and for them to start using it. Yes it is centralised but the problem is largely mitigated by the fact it runs in a secure enclave. Yes they could rugpull you but they can't see your data so not sure based on what they would rugpull.
