Bitcoin mining ⛏️ is often associated with specialized hardware, electricity consumption, and hashrate. Less visible is the software that keeps it running.

Behind the machines are protocols connecting miners to pools, applications distributing work, and tools for testing and monitoring these systems.

Our latest article explores where developers can contribute, from networking and backend applications to firmware and fleet management, with projects such as Stratum V2, Braidpool, Mujina, and Proto Fleet as starting points.

Interested in building beyond the hardware? Discover the software behind mining and where to begin.

Read the full article here: https://blog.btrust.tech/where-developers-can-contribute-to-bitcoin-mining/

What does it mean to contribute to Bitcoin open-source projects in the age of Al?

Al can help developers investigate bugs, explore solutions, and write code. Turning that work into a useful contribution still requires technical judgement, testing, and an understanding of the project's expectations.

Our latest article looks at where Al can help, how projects approach its use, and the responsibilities that remain with contributors.

Read the full article here: https://blog.btrust.tech/bitcoin-open-source-contribution-in-the-age-of-ai/

Finding an open-source project to contribute to is easy, but choosing one where you can learn, contribute, and keep going takes a little more thought.

Bitcoin’s open-source ecosystem spans protocol development, Lightning, wallets, mining, privacy, ecash, developer tools, infrastructure, testing, documentation, and more. With so many directions to explore, your first project can shape how you experience open-source development.

In our latest article, we break down what to look for before you commit, how to assess your interests and skills, understand a project before touching the code, read its community, choose a contribution you can finish, and ask better questions when you get stuck.

If you're figuring out where to make your first contribution, start here: https://blog.btrust.tech/how-to-choose-your-first-open-source-project-2

We’re really proud to see some of our alumni among the recipients. 🧡

We’ll be running two more cohorts this year: Rust 🦀 for Bitcoiners and Language Clubs, both starting in October.

Learn more and apply to join us here: btrust.tech/builders/apply

quoting
nevent1q…3ymf
We’re excited to announce the Q3, 2026 Btrust developer grant recipients. 🚀

Ten Bitcoin open-source developers are receiving support this quarter, including five starter grant recipients and five open-source cohort members.

This cohort continues our mission to decentralize Bitcoin open-source development by supporting contributors from the Global Majority working across Bitcoin Core, mining ⛏️ infrastructure, Lightning⚡ tools, wallet libraries, and privacy-preserving payments.

Q3 also marks an important first: Btrust developer grants are going directly to developers outside Africa. Following the recent expansion of our long-term grants, we’re welcoming Leonardo and plebhash from Brazil 🇧🇷, and Ansh from India 🇮🇳.

A defining theme of this cohort is community. Several recipients developed their skills through BitDevs, vinteum (nprofile…y9h6), bitshala@iris.to (nprofile…8m06), Btrust Builders (nprofile…frz8), Africa Free Routing (nprofile…ms77) bootcamps, Dada Devs and other learning programs. Four more Btrust Builders pathway cohorts have wrapped up, and it’s been exciting to see our community keep learning, building, and growing. 🚀

Between May and July, developers came together for Rust for Bitcoiners 🦀, Language Clubs, Mastering Bitcoin, and Bitcoin CLI, working through technical material, supporting their peers, and putting their skills into practice.

Across the four cohorts, we recorded 204 enrollments and 87 graduations. Some graduates are now continuing their journey through the open source fellowship.

We’ve put together a full recap of the learning, community, and achievements across these cohorts, plus what’s coming next, including October’s Rust for Bitcoiners and Language Clubs cohorts.

Read the full update here: https://blog.btrust.tech/celebrating-our-q2-q3-2026-pathway-cohort-graduates
