If all you care about is the SNI and it doesn't need to correspond to the information exchanged within the SMTP protocol then the answer is sort of obvious and embedded in your question. i.e. Yes, you can inspect SNI but it won't be universally available so you need a fallback behavior or an error behavior when it is missing.

As a pedant, I too get annoyed by details like this. However the way you are discussing this gives the impression that you think it undercuts their ideological position exalting the supremacy of user control over devices. Do you disagree with that? The TEE and TRM both act as levers to place device manufacturers in between users and service providers. Which end use is disrupted feels like a bit of a distraction to me.

It seems clear there is a market for them and Intel has done enough networking and peripheral interconnect work to have something to offer in rack scale design. This seems like something Oxide must have war gamed from a business planning perspective, or maybe you all think it is too preposterous to take seriously?

I haven't seen anyone disclose the number of prior failed or discarded runs. Rather than itemize per model the public would benefit a lot more from quarterly business operations reports that includes these figures.

Currently #Debian linux is going through a massive migration project to rely on a 64 bit time rather than a 32 bit time (to avoid #y2k38). Debian has these migrations from time to time. About 10 years ago there was a migration to leap a C++ ABI change. Every time these come up I'm amazed at how well executed they are and by how the core dpkg/apt tools have proven their fundamental over and over again for 30 (!!!!) years. I am so thankful to everyone involved in Debian for such a reliable OS.

The difference between the NYT and ChatGPT is the same difference between the NYT and the The Register. Notable here because many fewer people would describe The Register as having a goal of providing reliable information, even though they rely on the same editorial mode as NYT.
