This ongoing series tracks the cost of living on a Bitcoin Standard, shedding light on how inflation in traditional currency terms compares to deflation in Bitcoin terms. Our goal is to offer a perspective for those who view Bitcoin as their primary measure of value, providing actionable insights into the relative purchasing power of goods and services over time.
Let’s dive into the December 2024 data and evaluate the trends shaping the global economy for Bitcoiners and dollar earners alike.

December 2024 CPI Update
The latest CPI for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U)¹ shows a YoY increase of 2.90% as of December 31, 2024. This marks a continued moderate rise in the USD-based cost of goods and services, reflecting the broader inflationary pressures on the economy.
By contrast, the Bitcoin Price Index (BPI), which adjusts CPI for Bitcoin's price movement, recorded a YoY change of -59.45%, indicating a significant reduction in the BTC-denominated cost of living. This stark difference illustrates Bitcoin's deflationary characteristics, as its value appreciation far outpaces inflationary trends.
Here’s how Bitcoin’s price has performed in this period:
• BTC Price (12/31/2024): $93,897.38²
• One-Year Increase: +120.64% (from $42,556.93 on 12/31/2023)
• Four-Year Increase: +222.54% (from $29,111.52 on 12/31/2020)

Insights for Bitcoiners
The difference between CPI and BPI highlights the impact of Bitcoin’s price volatility and long-term upward trend. Over the past decade:
• USD Trend: CPI has exhibited a consistent average YoY increase of 0.04%, signaling steady inflation in USD terms.
• BTC Trend: BPI shows a declining trend of -0.22% YoY, reflecting the relative deflationary impact for Bitcoiners.

As shown in the chart, the red-shaded area under the CPI line indicates periods where the CPI exceeds the targeted 2% inflation rate, signaling heightened inflationary pressures. Conversely, the green-highlighted area above the BPI line reflects periods when the BPI is negative, indicating a decrease in the cost of living for those living on a Bitcoin Standard. These visual markers help clarify how Bitcoin consistently offsets the effects of USD inflation.
Bitcoin’s price surges in 2015, 2019, and 2023 created temporary spikes in the BPI. However, the overall trend remains downward, showcasing Bitcoin’s ability to lower the relative cost of goods and services for those holding it long-term. This decoupling from USD inflation provides an alternative lens for understanding monetary policy’s effect on purchasing power.

Conclusion
Bitcoin continues to outperform traditional currency as a store of value, not only preserving but expanding purchasing power over time. While USD inflation creeps along at a modest pace, Bitcoin offers a hedge against this trend, driving significant cost-of-living reductions for those who adopt a Bitcoin Standard.
As we enter 2025, these patterns emphasize the potential for Bitcoin as a tool for financial sovereignty. Whether you're new to Bitcoin or a long-time advocate, understanding these dynamics is essential for navigating an evolving global economy.
If you enjoyed this post or found the information useful, subscribe for free and receive an email whenever there is a new post! By adjusting the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) data from the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) for the price of Bitcoin, we aim to illustrate how the purchasing power of goods and services shifts in terms of BTC compared to USD. This index offers unique insight for those who measure their wealth in Bitcoin and seek to understand the long-term impact of currency debasement and market fluctuations on their daily expenses. Let's dive into the latest data and see how our purchasing power stacks up this month.

November CPI Update

According to the latest update via the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis on December 11, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.15 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in November, the same increase as the previous 3 months.

The all items index increased 2.73 percent for the 12 months ending November, 2024.

Adjusting for Bitcoiners

While the Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services, it needs to be adjusted for those living on a Bitcoin Standard to reflect the cost of those goods and services relative to BTC.

The price of Bitcoin on 11/30/2024 was approximately $96,536.75.

The all items index measured in BTC fell -47.93% for the 12 month ending November, 2024.

I’d also like to note that the $96,536.75 price of BTC is +156.35% from $37,658.08 on 11/30/2023, one year ago. Looking back four years ago, it is +398.06% from $19,382.36 on 11/30/2020.

Bitcoiner Price Index Chart November 2024

Trends

Including this data in my previous analysis of the last decade, the year-over-year trend in CPI remains steady at 0.04%, while the trend in BPI is now -0.18%. This suggests a slow but consistent increase in the cost of goods and services for those living on a US Dollar standard, and a gradual but accelerating decrease in costs for those living on a BTC standard.

It is worth noting that there are extremely sharp increases in BPI seen in 2015, 2019, and 2023, but despite this, the average year-over-year % change in costs of goods and services for Bitcoiners is still decreasing at over 4x the rate that prices are increasing in USD terms.

If you enjoyed this post or found the information useful, follow me here or subscribe for free on substack to receive an email whenever there is a new update!

https://cryptoheathen34.substack.com/ 2024-12-11T20:23:31Z https://njump.cloud.vinney.xyz/nevent1qqsrxskz3ltq4kxq2vhdrzsptcq3vj9te2g034pkyuu827l0lfwkwcszyzkcm9nqce6a8vapdlq5snqsy7pt4qms4e0efmzlc2eyf2xg5zjcj9rc3zn In reply to nevent1q…60p5
_________________________

I'm a redneck from Missouri, I've eaten a fair share of squirrel 2024-11-04T02:19:14Z https://njump.cloud.vinney.xyz/nevent1qqsfxj043zulf0fqlkl6c2qwjxlvdzhv0pstyzj6yndt4x0xrdel9hczyzkcm9nqce6a8vapdlq5snqsy7pt4qms4e0efmzlc2eyf2xg5zjcjpcs485 A Beginner's Guide to DevourGO

What is DevourGO?

DevourGO is an innovative ecosystem where games, entertainment, and food converge.

The platform not only connects restaurant brands with a digital-first Gen Z audience, but is also pioneering food perk rewards and tokenized promotions for next-gen campaigns that deliver results, transparency, and connection.

The DevourGO app lets users order delivery from their favorite restaurants and pay using the native cryptocurrency token, FUEL ($FUELX), or connect via Coinbase Commerce to pay with over 2.8M different tokens.

The full Devour Whitepaper is available at: https://devour.io/devour2024wp/

GoVIP
GoVIP is the rewards center within the DevourGO app. Users can earn points and level up their account by placing orders, purchasing FUEL directly within GoVIP, completing tasks in the Share2Earn section, and even by playing mini-games in Play2Earn!

Get $10.00 off your first 3 orders by signing up via my link:
https://devourgo.io/?ref=iHYNXavZ2sG1BSUhhp2p7i

Points and Levels
Users start at Level 1 in GoVIP, with the top level being Level 11. That is, CPI is the measure of prices paid by US consumers, and BPI is the measure of relative prices paid by Bitcoiners.

I understand CPI is far from ideal or complete data, but it's what I have access to and what the mainstream economists (🤢) seem to use, so I'll use it as well, at least as a start.

I took the CPI data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and the BTC data from CoinDesk (free API keys).

The chart below shows the past 10 years data, all that was available via API for free, in typical year-over-year fashion as well as trend lines.

Since the targeted inflation rate is 2%, I've shaded in red any time the CPI is over 2%. And since my base case is that BTC will gain purchasing power, I've shaded in green any time BPI is negative.

I'm still playing around with this, but I find it pretty interesting and different than most BTC charts I see floating around.

I figured I'd #AskNostr to get some feedback and hopefully some opinions on improved methods and/or data sources.

Based on the data thus far, the CPI trend is 0.05 and the BPI trend is -0.10, suggesting that prices are falling for bitcoiners twice as fast as they are rising in USD despite the large spikes during the bears.

I plan on following this each month when the CPI comes out, and modifying it to make improvements along the way. Should be neat to see how things go over the coming years.

#Bitcoin #Coding
2024-09-12T00:14:25Z https://njump.cloud.vinney.xyz/nevent1qqs8cchmszs7dtesucczdqezmevg53esqvu83xzza2g59t0ml269cmszyzkcm9nqce6a8vapdlq5snqsy7pt4qms4e0efmzlc2eyf2xg5zjcjqk4s0m Any time Kamala talks she's either cackling like a fool or sounds like she's about to cry. 2024-09-11T02:47:41Z https://njump.cloud.vinney.xyz/nevent1qqsg3azsh0ddptdlplrqhuxh0x9qgmu6jv9nfufvnx3mj9qxcweja7szyzkcm9nqce6a8vapdlq5snqsy7pt4qms4e0efmzlc2eyf2xg5zjcjfe2l8n I didn't think it was possible, but somehow I dislike Kamala more than Hillary 2024-09-11T02:17:32Z https://njump.cloud.vinney.xyz/nevent1qqsq5qk7twkeyne9gqadyu9wxsnvzamkwrfe8h0hnhex003pk4nfjmqzyzkcm9nqce6a8vapdlq5snqsy7pt4qms4e0efmzlc2eyf2xg5zjcjgezsy2 2024-09-10T17:16:10Z https://njump.cloud.vinney.xyz/nevent1qqszdmxvcgylf4k6weutsf5ae2l45ra97ktx48jeqfdj4j9q8fu9y8qzyzkcm9nqce6a8vapdlq5snqsy7pt4qms4e0efmzlc2eyf2xg5zjcjfx4kka In reply to nevent1q…9t7m
_________________________

Thank you! I recently came across this information, so it's not something I ever paid much attention to until now.

When buying fresh garlic, make sure it has roots!

When garlic is imported from China, it gets bleached and the roots are removed.

Imported garlic is often grown using human sewage as an inexpensive fertilizer, and often not treated properly at that. It is then sprayed with chemicals to prevent sprouting, bleached with chlorine to make it look white, and then fumigated with methyl bromide which can cause respiratory and CNS damage.

To spot imported garlic, a tag that says "product of China" is obvious. But also, look for the roots and the bleached white look. Domestic garlic will still have roots and will have some color, as it hasn't been bleached.

I've loved garlic my entire life, and I've undoubtedly eaten some Chinese garlic simply because I had no idea that was something I needed to pay attention to. Boy, have my eyes been opened looking into some of this!

I figured I'd pass this info along to help raise awareness. Eat local and stay healthy out there. 🫡

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4295866/

https://www.marysheirloomseeds.com/blogs/news/are-you-eating-toxic-garlic

2024-08-24T21:59:28Z
