It's an Android rule. A website lists the apps allowed to open its links. X owns both domains, so it allows its own app.
Other apps need the user to allow it by hand, about 6 taps in the settings. Acting as a browser avoids that.

I created #UntrackMe a long time ago, and a few months ago I updated it.
Since Android 12, an app can't open links from domains it doesn't own, like YouTube or Twitter. So UntrackMe now acts as a browser. You set it as your default browser, it receives all links, removes trackers or redirects them to alternative front-ends, then sends them to your real browser or apps.

Thanks! Fedilab currently supports GIFs from keyboards. Adding a GIF picker would need a closer look at the dependencies, since they must be compatible with F-Droid. That said, using a service with your own API key would not be an issue, so I'll keep the idea in mind. Bookmarked.

You seem interested in the feature to follow a conversation.
#Fedilab uses APIs, so this would be in-app.
When you follow a conversation, the app would save the root message ID (from your instance).
It would then fetch new messages since the last snapshot, in the background or at startup, from your instance and from the remote one when possible.
Notifications would look like the other ones. Tapping one would open the conversation at the new reply.

You can already mute conversations with the 3-dots menu. It has been improved. It doesn't only mute notifications (Mastodon standard), but also hides all replies from that conversation from your timeline.

I think it's time to move #Fedilab forward. I haven't introduced an ambitious feature in a long time.

The idea is a shared Home timeline with all connected accounts, with the option to exclude some of them.
Actions on a message won't need extra effort: the right account will be used, and if several accounts are involved, the app will ask you which one to use.

It's a lot of work, so I'm asking you first.

I hope I will still be able to maintain #Fedilab for all Android devices, especially the oldest ones.

That's why I chose not to use some libraries that would raise the minimum Android version, so the app still works on devices from 2014.

To avoid encryption issues, Fedilab uses the Conscrypt library to install a modern security provider on devices that are no longer maintained.

Not everyone runs the latest Android version or has a recent device, and I am proud to take care of these users.

Adding #FCast support to #CastLab was a good idea, thanks to the contributors who suggested it.

First built for #DLNA devices, the app also works with this open-source protocol, an alternative to closed ones like Chromecast.

It supports screen sharing and playback of online videos. In the next release, it will also offer an AIDL API and a library, so other Android apps can easily use it to cast.

Concerning #HolosSocial, I still believe it's an interesting project because it brought something new to the #Fediverse.

Not only because you run your #ActivityPub server on your device, but mainly because you can own your identity with your own domain name.

My mistake was making it easy to run the server on your device, but not to get your own identity.
That will be my challenge in the coming months.

PS: I have no funding for this project and I work alone, so yes, it takes time :)

If you are a polyglot, it can warn you when you have selected the wrong language.
You can enable it in Settings > Compose > Check language when posting.
