Has this all worked? To my knowledge, I've had #COVID19 once, after a trip to do a public speaking event where I opted not to mask. That was a bad decision, but I had a moment of weakness because I like public speaking and no one else was masked. Even I succumb to social pressures.

But I haven't shut myself off from the world. I dine out. I see friends. I travel. And I wish I didn't have that one infection, but I also believe it's important to balance health risks with living and enjoying life.

- I take D3, which reduces the risk of viral respiratory infections if you are already deficient.

The clearest things are decisive actions:
- I get vaccinated (obviously)!
- I mask in crowds or when traveling on planes, trains, and buses.
- I choose outdoor options or places with big, open doors and windows.

- I pick less crowded times (such as matinees for movies or mid-afternoon meals in restaurants during lulls).

The same is true of positive rate. According to Biofire, the positive rate of testing for COVID has remained low and rock-solid steady.

I'd expect to see both COVID in wastewater and the positive rate to rise at the start of our summer surge. No sign thus far.

The positive rate was 3x higher a year ago and 6x higher two years ago on this date.

I'm not saying there is NO risk. I'd still advise masking in crowds. But "countless" deaths and disables? No.

Someone dying from a FIFA COVID infection is possible. A handful may suffer disability from an infection they got at an event. But more will die or be disabled from accidents going to and from games than from COVID.

People accept risks like this all the time to enjoy life. It's their choice, as it is yours to take care. If you want more people to care, be objective and exaggerate less.

You can urge people to be COVID-cautious without attacking anyone or exagerrating the risks. If you think any sane person will listen and react positively to you saying “countless people will die or be disabled" because of events in 2026, you're wrong. Talk like this only makes people think the COVID-cautious are obsessed and worth ignoring. 2/2

I'm not saying COVID is gone or you shouldn't be cautious. I think it's vital people have the freedom to do what they think is right for their and their families' health. But doing the right thing requires valid information, and I'd hope by providing that, I help people.

There is no reason for immediate fear about the hantavirus or Ebola. My point isn't to suggest they demand any action at this time. I'm just constantly puzzled by how so many people demand the freedom to infect others but cheer the government when it limits others' freedom to prevent spreading infections.

We can't expect protection and safety if we're not willing to make small sacrifices to protect and ensure others' safety.

My wife and I are talking about traveling south for the holidays just to avoid all the social pressures. Last winter, I rejected all social events (although we did have some safer friends over at home). It's hard to be they only ones saying no, so we might skip town, head to where the weather is warmer (more outdoor activities), and take ourselves out of the holiday COVID pool as much as possible. The study I posted said nothing whatsoever about CO2. I'm sorry, but your contention seems to have no basis in science. Of COURSE, when someone breathes more air others have exhaled, the risks will be higher. We also know that the dose level that one is infected with can effect severity, which further indicates CO2 matters. AND, new studies show high CO2 causes COVID to remain infectious longer in the air. I believe you are wrong unless you can share links.

I have found some safer places and inquired, and they'll tell you they upgraded their filtration--but none of them advertise it. That's why I am posting my readings to https://www.co2trackers.com/home so that others who care may avoid or visit businesses based on potential risks. I don't eat indoors much, but as an extrovert, I can't quite give up the socializing entirely (except during surges.)

My experiments going out with my CO2 monitor are discouraging. Tonight, with COVID in wastewater at its lowest in 11 months in my city, we went out to eat. We hoped for outdoor dining, but it rained, so we sat inside. CO2 readings:

4:30 pm: 50% crowd in a brewpub: 1548
5:45 pm: 75% crowd in a Mexican restaurant: 1341
7:45 pm: Long line at ice cream shop: 1896

I thought businesses upgraded air filtration & ventilation, but these readings encourage me to stay home. #COVID19 taught us nothing.

Ron DeSantis signed a law that erases most references to climate change from state law. The state government will no longer consider climate change when crafting energy policy.

Republican Lawmakers in West Virginia were so excited that raw milk was recently legalized there, that they decided to drink some of it. Now, many of them are sick. (They claim it's a coincidence.)
