The gist is that you get no internet / threading whatsoever, but you get additional API's to get someone's username for example. Then you also get an API for a realtime channel with the other people in the chat who have the app open.

With that you can do a lot, so people can send chess data over the realtime, submit match replays to chat, even do it slow turn based over chat, etc.

One of the most advanced ones is a fully functional runescape server and client. You open the app, it loads the character progress from the chat and if nobody is hosting yet it begins to automatically host the world for the others.

In case people wonder, well what about Nostella? To me they serve a different purpose. Armada Stack is to get your own armada community up and running with everything it needs. Those don't have the goal of getting a full kind 1 feed. They don't even need kind 1 at all, its all NIP-17.

Nostella works as a relay for concord, I deliberately tested that but I don't think it adds nearly as much as it does for regular Nostr.

But if you want to combine these two its definitely possible to run side by side and add Nostella as an additional relay for your concord community.

Matrix is extremely daunting to host, the fact you need your own synapse instance, which I recall needs a https proxy in front (maybe it can do https natively now not sure), probably needs a database, it then needs a livekit server for the calling, a bridge for the calling and you have to make sure the federation actually works properly. An the easy part to get all that done? "Not suitable for production".

There's probably ways to do it but it was very intimidating. Similar with Armada but not as bad, you needed a nostr relay (the easy part), a livekit server, a push server if you wanted to go truly standalone and a blossom server. Still to many servers but they did have a setup script at least.

But now? Now its one server. One rust binary and you are setup. The only other projects that are this easy to host have been the ones that have no federation to begin with.

Your very own version of Armada is now stored on your own server. By default your version of the client will use your own relay and Blossom server, but i'tll keep using public relays too (for redundancy). You can configure that in armada.toml. I recommend configuring at least 3 relays (including your own), and 3 Blossom servers. You are also free to be isolationist and configure only your own relay.

Here's what you get:

Nostr Relay

The built-in Nostr relay accepts only Concord-related kinds and does strict validation of all event kinds it supports. We try to reject as many non-encrypted events as possible except for the basics like kind 0 and 3. This is to prevent abuse and make self-hosting such a relay viable.

The relay stores events in an optimized binary format to conserve disk space. It's heavily inspired by strfry and was developed alongside the new Ditto Relay.

Encrypted Uploads

All files are encrypted client-side by Armada. The server only sees opaque blobs. Armada's Blossom server specifcally only accepts encrypted files. How does it know? It does a sniff test - if it looks like a jpeg or an mp4, it's out. Only random-looking data is allowed. So you don't have to worry about a DMCA takedown notice or other liability. You're just serving encrypted garbage and you don't know what any of it is.

Video and Voice

Armada Stack ships with LiveKit built in. There is not much more to say about it. When you start a call, it will go through your own server.

Tor

You get an onion! You get an onion! You get an onion! That's right, it's 2026 and you can just do things. You get Tor Arti baked in, which makes your entire stack (web UI, relay, Blossom, voice) available on a single .onion address. A key is generated for you automatically and stored in /var/lib/armada. Users of Tor Browser and Brave will see an onion button in their address bar they can click to access the site over Tor.

Push Notifications

A push gateway is built in, allowing users of your Armada to get Web Push notifications.

Automatic SSL

The server is built on Hyper in Rust, which performs even faster than Nginx in my benchmarks. So I made it serve on port 443 and handle automatic cert renewal. It does what Caddy does without needing Caddy while being significantly faster. If you want to serve multiple domains from the same host you'll want to disable this. But if your server is dedicated to Armada, it will make setup extremely easy.

Privacy

Cookies are never used. IP addresses are never logged. Even if they were, there is no authentication, so nothing links your profile to your traffic. Use Tor for ultimate privacy - but even without it you get a lot of the benefits.

Automatic Updates

The script sets up a Debian repo or RedHat repo on your system depending on your distro. You can then apt upgrade or dnf upgrade to get the latest Armada Stack.

The frontend auto-updates when we deploy a new nsite on Nostr. You can disable that in armada.conf.

Because your right, I don't care if its fixed or not, this was about the quality of your app I was helping with to notify you of the issue. I'm fine sticking to other desktop clients until its fixed.

I was partially trolling when I posted that trying to make it seem like I didn't know that you need to update binaries for each platform separately and just clicked on every tag so it would work on every OS.

But behind that joke is something really cool, Nostella actually works on all those platforms from the single binary. The post was a troll, the upload wasn't. Thats right, you can run nostella's binary on Linux, MacOS (untested but should work), and Windows.

So here's the progress on Nostella so far since its really taking shape now.
- I found and fixed more ways that the mesh could decide to put to much load on a single relay, it has a coordinator now that is meant to prevent to many on deciding to query the same relay. Because of this please don't use anything below 0.5, they may not be safe for the Nostr network in larger numbers.
- Performance was enhanced an immense amount since I last posted about it, according to my agent testing it its now comparable to relays like fastr and ditto relay (closer to fastr than to ditto on the underpowered container).
- It has memory management on board now so all you need to run this is just good storage (and if your really is super busy I assume a decent cpu). It automatically adapts based on how much free ram is available, if you got a ton of free ram why should we care about optimizing the ram after all? Then the more ram is being consumed the tighter the ram controls become and the more we rely on the CPU/Disk to compensate.
- NIP-50 had a big overhaul inspired by the Ditto relay. This does now double the storage space required, but it actually reliably fetches past events instead of just recent ones.
- The relay is downloadable from the relay if its the cross platform version. So people discovering your relay can also download their own nostella copy for their own peer.
- Nodes that aren't public anyway no longer advertise themselves, I noticed those advertisements were pointless since they need to connect to an UltraPeer anyway to become part of the mesh.
- Kind 36669 was replaced with kind 33737 since there was overlap with something else. Both used a different structure and nostella had expire times set so the old ones won't disrupt, but I still prefer to keep this clean with its own kind.
- It now has a --standalone mode if you don't like the aggregation and meshing it does. Want a classic relay but like nostella's design otherwise? You got it now.

If you do run a nostella node without --stanalone mode please keep an eye on it. I am now multiple simulations in and it should be at the point where I do not expect much risk from these nodes to regular relays. But if I did have an oversight you are still participating in a self regulating mesh, so if it has bugs and people need you to shut yours down / update make sure you are available for that in these early stages.

VitorPamplona (nprofile…vhl6) some amethyst feedback now I updated to the latest. Performance seems good again, possibly a little bit longer on cold start but smoother scrolling so that is a good trade for me and I think my days of sticking to 1.12 are finally over.

Theres 2 small things that seperate the DM's from me liking the experience on Armada and hating the experience on Amethyst.

I don't want the concord groups mixed in with my DM's. I already customize amethyst not to do that, but it would be nice if me toggling concord off in the DM section was account synced. (If its not already, it didn't remember it from the last version I tried it on).

But the biggest gripe that makes me hate it is the lack of an account synced option to mark a DM as hidden. Armada lets me do this, its then gone until that person messages me again or until I want to message them through their profile.

This allows me to hide the DM's of people I don't intend on talking to anytime soon but don't want to block either and helps me declutter.

The way to implement it ill leave up to you, but one simple way is marking it the same way you sync app settings where you save a timestamp for that npub so it knows not to show it if the last message was prior to that point.

Two things though I do think they have a point and I already mentioned to chad:
- By default it uses soapbox servers: It does have pretty bad defaults especially since it can block Amethyst users from DMing Armada users because of the lack of inbox relays. Armada should be a good onboard for the rest of nostr to since those keys won't just stay used in Armada. A nice varied set of relays would be very welcome and eliminate that criticism entirely. Pretty sure chad was already open to this.
- The analytics thing: Your response of removing it is the response I wanted, so thanks for that one!

Now lets be honest, it didn't clone adobe. It made a UI thats very similar but under the hood obviously its a completely different thing and won't work as well.

But the fact that many things including for example Minecraft are so easily cloneable, in an open source way does mean the future is hobbyists contributing LLM PR's to software and the software growing on its own merrits, rather than large corporations developing that software with subscription models.

I actually said it today to someone, the impact of Ai on the job market will be immense but the value society gets in return will likely be far greater. Since were going to have an abundance of games, software and other stuff now its so easy to build it.

And Nostr itself benefits a lot from it to, since previously most people willing to spent a ton of time doing free software were highly ideologically motivated and wanted to gatekeep those platforms. But now that its democratized you see places like Nostr thriving from contributions by people who can't spend 500 hours building something cool, but now can build that same cool thing in a weekend or two with AI.

Basically my vibe code experiment of the week.
Mine has this concept:
- If we come across it we cache it.
- To our peers we forward the query the user did so we get their data, along with a list of who we already queried so they don't all spam the same relay. Anything that comes back we cache.
- If its sent to us we forward it if we dont already have it.
- If we come across a new relay we save it. If we come across a relay often we prioritize it to automatically stay in touch with relays people actually use.
- We announce ourselves over the network so others can find us. (This bit I still need to refine, its probably good enough that only the public nodes do this). These events are tempoary events relays dont have to keep long, and frequently overwritten with an updated copy. Now other nodes find us.
- We centralize by promoting peers we like to ultrapeer if we need more of those. Those facilitate things like holepunching and fetch more events than leaf nodes. (Gnutella style).

So far todays test runs went very well once I found why it was bombarding relays with requests (the ai added some stuff I didn't ask for that amplified queries, and it lacked good ajti looping I now added). How well it works in practise when theres a lot of them has to be seen though. But its designed to be extremely resillient to where the network just heals itself and where all these nodes are aggregator relays.

Back in the GPT3 era OpenAI would release a new model, people absolutely loved it. It would be very uncensored and they'd go nuts. Then once the press and benchmarks were in they'd turn the censorship back on, crippling the model but then it was "safe" again.

And then of course providers routing some queries to smaller models if they deem it "dangerous" (or need the efficiency probably).

Open models with third party trusted providers tend to at least give you what your asking for. Although in that case you also need to double check what quantization level its using, but that data tends to be transparent.

Yup, and this post is so people can see if their client of choice is safe against it. I think primal's IP had no reputation at the time of the check, so when they cached it it shows up blue. For many others it will show either green if your good, or red if your at risk.

Don't worry, I didn't doxx you and I am not trying anything malicious with this.
But if you are seeing your real IP there, that means your client is not protecting you.
If anyone has an image including their avatars they can see you use nostr.

If someone manages to send you a personal image to try and find your IP it would mean you are not protected.

Sorry for the scare if that thing showed you as unprotected, but I'd rather scare you than leave you vulnerable without you knowing this.

LGBT / Progress Pride Flags. UN flag and EU flag.

There are so many Nostr apps out there, I even vibe coded my own. But at the end of the day there is only one I trust with my account settings and that is Amethyst. That one reliably has never screwed up my settings, username trick, etc. So whenever I tweak settings I tend to do it there.

I don't own a TV but if I do want one at some point i'd just buy a TV sized monitor that automatically turns on with the input that is currently active. That would be all I need. Then I can just turn a streaming box or PC on which activates the display automatically.
