I'm pretty sure I've posted this 3 times now over the years, but with cool weather returning (and with it, jeans with pockets) I can once again show off my #edc little bundle I have dramatically titled "The Implements of Man", consisting if a little brass knife, a little neat brass lighter, and a brass kaweco liliput #fountainpen all in a little hand-sewn leather holder that fits in the little change pocket in jeans~

Bonus points: after a light rinse in water the liliput still writes despite the ink being in it for 5 months unused (sailor kiwa guro ink is the best)

idk if yall tried this "nappuccino" thing before where you slam back an espresso and then take a 30 minute nap, but it is violently effective. I AM SO AWAKE

Tiny #ereader arrived (xteink3). Put on some custom OS (CrossInk) and got some of my in progress books in there.

It's real small! Small enough that I can sacrifice 1/2 of my current #edc
notebook/wallet and make a little cutout to keep it in my pocket at all times.

Again, I could just read these on my phone instead of a non-backlit tiny device, but I'm more frequently trying to keep my phone in another room and enjoy the extra nerd cred.

Man, it sucks. I feel like the first half of my career was fighting big software -- like "fuck Microsoft and Oracle, I'm bringing in Linux and Python and cool open source products to work and we'll change the culture here!"

And now several years later my work still uses Microsoft and Oracle, plus MS now owns github and all the open source code got ingestedd into the grinder and all these billionaires made more billions on the back of open source stuff and now open source somehow is expected to be production enterprise grade.

We should have never brought our toys to work, yall -- Now my policy is work computering and home computering are distinctly and intentionally very different computering.

The next 0dd.company gallery is out! We didn't get a lot of submissions this month (though there's going to be a few late submissions!)

This month's inspiration was the painting "The Triumph of Death", and I made a virtual pet in #uxn called "Apocketlypse" for my submission where you raise a little avatar of the apocalypse.

(It's very bad but looks good in gif form)

It also runs on an M5 Stick device thanks to the recent M5stack uxn port nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyd968gmewwp6kyqpqqu5vzh27f2j25c8k7z68kz2uugfau5e4u77fks445hr249pzhagqxncsuk (nprofile…csuk) did, so it feels like a real virtual pet!

You can see more (as well as other submissions) at https://0dd.company/galleries/triumph/ !

First half decent day of the year

Got my bike out of storage and rode it to the store instead of driving

To buy junk food

(Gotta keep things balanced)

Now I'm going to sit outside and read a book

(Defiantly -- for our outdoor cushions are still in storage and it's a little chilly)

I grabbed a copy on itch even though I have zero need to make tiny models at the moment (perhaps one day soon tho!)

The next gallery for #0ddCompany is up~

This time the inspiration was the 1922 film HAXAN which was pretty neat as someone who's not usually into older films.

For my submission I made a poem and wrote it into a little magic circle with a dip pen which took a very long time.

Check it out and the other odd submissions at https://0dd.company/galleries/witches/

Me pressing the single button which will yield me a plain black espresso in 20 seconds with no cleanup or hassle:

My partner, from the other side of the room, who only drinks full-effort cappuccinos with foamed oat milk: "Oh hey since you're already making coffee :>"

Our stupid front door lock decided the keycode was wrong as I stood outside in -20C temps in a light coat needing to pee.

After 5 attempts it went into lockdown mode and i proceeded to spend 30 minutes breaking into my own house as my dogs went berserk and my hands slowly froze.

Electricity was a mistake

How do big-box store companies manage to make such horrible websites on mobile?

I just opened one looking for a hardware thing and actually laughed out loud at the sheer chaos of it.

Cookie popups, store selection popups, pick your country popups, phone notifications asking for location, I saw my keyboard pop up like 3 times and disappear for some reason, and then once I managed to dismiss everything the cart was set to like position:fixed hovering on the middle of the screen for some reason.

It was a violent and disorienting experience, and I think I'll just go to a store in person and find the thing lol

I got a couple more neat music-oriented gifts!

- A little music box with a hole punch & paper
- An old Autoharp from an auction

I actually previously had a little music box, but I didn't know how to read music then so it wasn't very useful. Kind of neat to both be able to actually punch in the music and understand the limitations of the little guy this time around.

As for the autoharp -- I'm still learning chord progressions slowly and this was perfect timing! Also, tuning this thing took *forever*

I'm still learning how the heck to use this thing; there are many buttons and hidden menus and the olde english buttons can be hard to decipher.

Ankidroid is relentless. Back when I was failing to learn language via duolingo I was always worried missing a day would kill my streak, and so I'd frequently sneak in with 5 minutes left till midnight and do a single shameful lesson to keep the precious streak going. I was more motivated to keep the streak than to learn.

Ankidroid's like "Oh you missed a day? Fuck you, now you have twice as much to review"

"Oh you missed another day? Not too smart are you? Thats 75 cards you owe me now"

I missed a couple days and still haven't caught up, but I make sure to at least do what I can each night and chip away.

Now it's fear that motivates me to keep learning. Fear of falling deeper into anki debt.

10/10
