My Mac was running hot and sure enough, something (I forget what) was spinning in the background. So I went to the settings list of which apps are allowed to run in background (and which actually are). I guess I must have at some point authorized all of them? Anyhow, in 2026, it looks like a list of adversaries. I kicked almost everything off the list unless there was a clear and obvious benefit to me.

Just ravishingly beautiful stuff, fabulous performance by the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. I really don't have any preferences. I picked CBOR because it's a clean superset of JSON and I thought it would be easy. This will be the first alternate Flattener implementation and I suspect I'll discover things that make me want to change the interface. Protobufs is an obvious candidate. Also Avro because it's on a lot of big busy Kafkas streams.

In principle I’d agree with you, but my experience with the RAWs from Pixel cameras, as opposed to the JPGs that come out of the camera app, has been disappointing. It seems that the computational-photography engine in the phone is pretty good at extracting all the value from what is after all a small-lens/small-sensor micro-camera. Put another way, on the Pixel, RAW+Lightroom doesn’t typically get me better results than JPG+Lightroom.

Hard to imagine there's much out there that still needs it.
