The Cleric is extremely squishy and can't wear armor, so allowing him to "summon" a bodyguard by converting an enemy undead is thematic and useful.

The Battlemage from Homebrew Quest.

The Battlemage is a simple class that sits in between the Wizard (that can cast 9 spells and sucks in combat) and "half-casters" like the Druid, Bard, and Elf, which can cast 3 spells and don't suck in combat.

The Battlemage can cast 6 spells and sucks less in combat than the wizard, but sucks compared to the half-casters. Unlike the wizard, he can wear light armor and use swords.

The moon is the symbol of arcane magic in HeroQuest. See the wizard card.

I looked into curing my own bacon from pork belly, and while it would save money and be better quality on average, it's a MASSIVE pain in the ass that takes a week of prep. Sure, you can do batches so it isn't that much work per batch, but that only makes sense if you're a business.

Bacon is just one of those things it makes more sense to buy than make. Cured pork belly renders down to nothing, so you have to cure it.

in old school D&D there was the Elf class, when race and class were the same thing. In later editions, the Elf became a race, and the Elf class became the Ranger. Aragorn was trained by the Elves, so it fits. If you compare the Elf class to the Ranger, they're the same thing. The Ranger in D&D suffers a lot from not having a clearly defined role or archetype. It's vaguely Aragorn-coded, and that's about it.

D&D Rangers and the Elf class are heavily borrowed from LOTR. Since the Elf class already exists and fills that niche, I went with the Witcher/monster hunter angle to make the class more distinct. If you want to play a LOTR Ranger, just play an Elf.

I recommend the "Farmers" Applewood smoked bacon over the Kirkland Signature thick cut bacon. They are both sold at Costco.

The Kirkland bacon is on the left, and you can see it shrinks into stubby strips. The Farmers bacon is on the right and doesn't shrink as it cooks.
