The Key symbolism is far from something unique. The current Nostr title and mascot are some of the best marketing ever, IMO.

Besides objective criteria, I pay a lot of attention to how many of my personal brand associations arise. Ostrich has been commonly associated with the coward, but we clearly have a redefinition: it's a psychologically transformed ostrich, a fearless superhero cypherpunk nerd, with good taste, which builds new clients very fast, because the protocol is so lightweight and easy to understand. There are lots of associations, including regional-only; I've already talked about it in some detail in my native language before.

My main point is that it doesn't matter that these are just my personal/regional associations: others, in practice, also demonstrate their fountain of associations from their unconscious. And all these associations are sound with the project.

This gives more weight for such symbolism. You don't have such a fountain of associations with just another Tensor/Vector/Scalar kind of marketing (sorry DM client guys, too many took this name already; a lot of good projects are literally associated with a placeholder now!). And the Key you proposed clearly has this issue.

Any marketing guys here? It would be nice if you could share your professional opinion too.

More precisely, p2p-media-loader is actually used in PeerTube: it's a wrapper that combines the usage of traditional CDN + WebTorrent, and they definitely have this complex design not out of the blue; others didn't really work.

In an ideal world, I wish it was just normal Torrent (which is at least impossible from browser engines).

And with just WebTorrent (Torrent on top of WebRTC)—there are some WebRTC-related traps:

- at least the warm-up is too slow, according to p2p-media-loader devs

- due to privacy settings or/and ISPs behind certain kind of NATs, one may not have a functioning WebRTC-based peering at all (only connections through TURN, which is not supported in p2p-media-loader; because that would be an unnecessary complication since they have to use the CDN anyway).

There are more. There's no way to escape the WebTorrent tracker and use DHT due to some browser limitations, and at the same time you can't have too many of the trackers (iOS/Safari in particular may aggressively close WebSocket connections out of the blue if it decides there are too many of them, and it can be challenging to handle this properly if at all).

These are just a few things I recalled from when I was setting up vidstack player + p2p-media-loader on my website.

In two words, thing that will work in practice is (an event kind 10063 server list) of Blossom-based CDNs (at least for warm up) + p2p-media-loader (only helpful in case of multiple concurrent connections) + stable 1Gbps+ network.

Other paths are known frustrating traps; it's hard to even test/debug this stuff because you can't easily simulate the identical weird NATs some ISPs have.

I'm interested at least in an overlay network, and practically I see it possibly as a bootstrapping evolutionary process: the overlay must be the easiest one to deploy with the software/hardware most of us already have; next there could be a hope to either turn it into (or more likely to bridge with) some kind of new internet (after redesigning networking hardware from scratch if absolutely needed), and finally, drop the legacy stuff.

I don't know whether FIPS is aiming for it and actually having an adequate design for the next step, but that's how I interpreted/hallucinated their strategy.

Some form of moderation will be inevitable at least on the Blossom servers, because they are in practice getting attacked with DMCA content (and notices), CSAM and non-NSFW content (yet labeled with the nsfw tag); so sooner or later it may end up as a mixed, unmanageable mess that may be suddenly suspended by a hosting provider in particular. Some hosting providers disallow just referencing DMCA'ed/etc. content as well.

To simplify moderation, the Blossom servers could ensure that only those who used NIP-42 auth can upload files, so it will be easier to ban entire unrelated npubs or temporarily allow only based on some trust rank/WoT/etc.). There's `restrict_uploads` in nostrfy in particular (which is allowlist-only currently):

At some point it was expected to see nsfw here: the protocol specs even mention nsfw/content-warning tags as examples. Yet due to repetitive irresponsible Blossom servers use, it seems like nobody's currently willing to maintain them, specifically for nsfw. Or due to related political age verification cringe, for example: this may affect hosting providers / domain registrars at some point, suddenly requiring KYC from blossom admins as a result, if not worse. DCMA takedown letters are a risk as well. Or it's due to whatever other moral reasons too, I dunno.

I guess some of us believe that we shouldn't focus on this content right now, that this stuff should go last. Soft erotic nsfw possibly acceptable to many here, though. To me personally, if whatever legal nsfw content is properly distinguishable with the nsfw tag—this still should be okay. Whoever who specifically produces original legal content and publishes their nostr events with the tag could run a blossom server for themselves and for likely minded people; nobody can technically disallow that here. Some small fee from producers will also make it reasonable to maintain the server.

DMs probably not worth reading here right now for this purpose. I've seen pronouns/gender spec proposals, and I think it's useful here: an nsfw-oriented client could have ignored all DMs from those who didn't set their pronouns or have an irrelevant one. As well as disallow sending any DMs until the pronoun is not yet set. As well as adding the proper nsfw/content-warning tag on every event (both public and the DMs even) and ignoring all non-nsfw events (which will be simultaneously an incentive to not publish events without the appropriate tag at all). WoT and whatever would help too but they are ironically almost empty of those who'd want to send such DMs (which is not necessary a bad thing).

If we stop fighting this stuff and transform it properly, those who don't want nsfw content will see it less often as a result. I think it's a win-win.

Is the website FOSS? Or planned to be FOSS? What about building it based on Nostube source code? AFAIK it already has some webtorrent-based p2p integration (used in PeerTube as well) already which is important for concurrent gooners that will be sharing too few blossom servers in too few locations right now. And the player just works (I believe it's one of the most painful things to debug on every single platform ever).

I've tried the test download files from the looking glass pages. If I measure from Moldova, the download speed from FI is ~11 MiB/s, and from NL it's less than ~1 MiB/s for some reason.

If I measure from the US, the speed from FI is ~19 MiB/s, and from NL is ~30 MiB/s.

Anyway, it would be nice to know the possible upper bound.

VPS hosting providers are so desperately backwards nowadays. The one I've been using for my relay, my videos, and some private self-hosted stuff has half-dead SSDs and an incompetent support team. It's expiring today, and I've been too slow to choose anything as a replacement. Adequate hosting became an unoccupied business niche today, probably mostly because of overregulations.

The no bullshit VPS of my dream is basically:
- honest 1 Gbps outgoing speed
- no KYC ever
- XMR/lightning payments
- DMCA-ignorance
- no abuse hysteria based on Spamhaus/Uceprotect/SpamCop/etc. false positives; actual abuse cases are verified manually based on metrics
- competent support team that actually timely responds and fixes their hardware/network issues rather than giving endless excuses

And most importantly: actual fraud-free. By actual fraud-free I mean it never ever holds your money as hostage, it always automatically refunds rather than just automatically terminates your VPS, in case if client is unable or not wanting to respond to another bogus abuse letter bullshit.

Are you possibly aware of one in 2026? I would pay a bit more than normal prices if such hosting existed.

And the Key you proposed clearly has this issue.

The main difficulty in group messaging is consensus.
How does a group of people agree on what key to encrypt the next message too. If people disagree, someone can't decrypt the messages of someone else. That's a fork in the group state, it's quite a similar problem to Bitcoin.
Contrary to Bitcoin, in most group messaging systems you know exactly who the group members are, which makes things easier.
The main hurdle for marmot specifically is that there is no central server whom you can trust with ordering messages properly. Every client has to be a "fully validating node" and create "the blockchain" of messages so that they're in the exact same order as everyone else.
Cordn takes a different approach, each group has one central coordinator who is trusted with message ordering. This massively simplifies the consensus problem, and reduces the amount of complexity in the client. This likely means cordn is relatively more stable than marmot if the coordinator is honest. And cordn uses lots of fancy tricks to make this central coordinator as blind and trust minimized as possible, and easy to run even in a browser tab.
This is somewhat similar to Bitcoin CoinJoin, almost impossible to do fully decentralized (only coin shuffle achieved it in theory) so everyone built centralized coordination models (even joinmarket) and then Wasabi optimized the coordinator to be blind and trust minimized.
So to some extend Marmot is trying to achieve the impossible, decentralized encrypted group messaging, many wizards keep telling us this is too difficult and probably impossible to achieve. But let's see, it smells to me like we're close on actually making it work...

At some point it was expected to see nsfw here: the protocol specs even mention nsfw/content-warning tags as examples. Yet due to repetitive irresponsible Blossom servers use, it seems like nobody's currently willing to maintain them, specifically for nsfw. Or due to related political age verification cringe, for example: this may affect hosting providers / domain registrars at some point, suddenly requiring KYC from blossom admins as a result, if not worse. DCMA takedown letters are a risk as well. Or it's due to whatever other moral reasons too, I dunno.

I guess some of us believe that we shouldn't focus on this content right now, that this stuff should go last. Soft erotic nsfw possibly acceptable to many here, though. To me personally, if whatever legal nsfw content is properly distinguishable with the nsfw tag—this still should be okay. Whoever who specifically produces original legal content and publishes their nostr events with the tag could run a blossom server for themselves and for likely minded people; nobody can technically disallow that here. Some small fee from producers will also make it reasonable to maintain the server.

DMs probably not worth reading here right now for this purpose. I've seen pronouns/gender spec proposals, and I think it's useful here: an nsfw-oriented client could have ignored all DMs from those who didn't set their pronouns or have an irrelevant one. As well as disallow sending any DMs until the pronoun is not yet set. As well as adding the proper nsfw/content-warning tag on every event (both public and the DMs even) and ignoring all non-nsfw events (which will be simultaneously an incentive to not publish events without the appropriate tag at all). WoT and whatever would help too but they are ironically almost empty of those who'd want to send such DMs (which is not necessary a bad thing).

If we stop fighting this stuff and transform it properly, those who don't want nsfw content will see it less often as a result. I think it's a win-win.

Noticing a bridge with GitHub motivated me to import some of my repos finally. It didn't properly work though: after "Push to Nostr" I have event kind 30617, but the repo was never pushed to GRASP servers, so I had to manually do `ngit sync && git push` to `nostr://...`.

Default clone URIs don't seem to work as well: cloning or pushing to `git@git.gittr.space:...` fails with `fatal: detected dubious ownership in repository`, fetching from `https://git.gittr.space/...` fails with `fatal: repository ... not found`.

I like the UI is currently so fast. Looking forward to Kanban/Project implementation and possibly importing/bridging it with GH as well.

Another thing I notice is both `uid.ovh` and `nmail.li` don't have DNSSEC enabled. I have no idea whether it breaks anything, but who knows what other servers might additionally check; perhaps enabling DNSSEC would be useful for the bridge in particular.
