People who are for privacy, for bitcoin, and who want to see a future where people are more free don't just talk about it, they do something about it, and that's what Azteco and Proton do.

And if your aim is to change the world, you need global scale adoption to do it. That means unfettered access to be able to have your tools installed on the phones of anyone who wants that tool.

This is true also of bitcoin.

Bitcoin can’t change the world unless easy access to it is made available to billions of users.

The only question is this: are you contributing to the solution of the problem or not? The Durov case and many other reasons are why companies avoid basing themselves in France. No Social Media platform will seek to headquarter in Paris. It’s unthinkable.

And the French government can’t go after Andrew Torba who runs GAB because he’s an American operating GAB in America. If GAB launches end to end encrypted chat or anything the Z French government doesn’t like, there’s nothing they can do about it.

The solution to “government overreach” is not building systems that can’t be cracked or stopped; they’re persecuting Durov without any proper cause. If your name is associated with a tool that the French government can’t stop or crack or track, they will come after you. This isn’t about right and wrong, following rules or logic.

This is not about technical capabilities or clever architecture, “frenz”; this is about computer illiterate tyrants who can’t understand detail or scale or ethics, and if they can, don’t care, because they want to sacrifice Durov to scare everyone.

The next iteration in this is to criminalise the authoring and distribution of unlicensed privacy software. The first part, distribution, will stop ordinary people from accessing Telegram or any tool that keeps messages private. This is easily done through Google Play and the Apple App Store. The second will totally dry up the developer pool of people working on privacy software, because none of them want any trouble. Oh, and GitHub will ban your repo, frenz.

Before you write “Hello World” in your new tool, you will need to have a Developer’s License before starting work, even in the conceptual stage. It will be illegal for you to share any design, algorithm or outline without both you and the idea recipient having a current Crypto Software Development License.

The answer to this is not “build your way out of it”, obviously.

The answer is to first curb the power of the state to persecute software development and distribution before you write “Hello World”. You do that by making the State smaller. You make the state smaller by instantiating sound money. That means globalising Bitcoin.

Imagine building something that no one is using, and then building something on top of that even less people can use unless it's under the most strict conditions, that no ordinary person will tolerate under any circumstances... and then thinking.

"THIS IS GOING TO RAWK!"

No, it's not going to rawk. It's going to die a slow death after the initial excitement in a small number of people wears off, unless a radical change happens...whatever that may look like.

And even as it's launched, all people can think of saying in these place is, "GM FRENZ", when the world is on the brink of WW3 and events unimaginable are commonplace.

This is a picture of the failure of a generation with the greatests tools and frameworks in the history of mankind at their fingertips...and all they can come up with is, "GM FRENZ".

If you can't articulate what you believe, if you are paralysed by indecision, if you are a a disinterested and deluded coward, you can't help anyone, and the powers you have are nullified by your low character.

Meanwhile...

The tiny number of people who don't suffer from these character flaws, and who have the means, are able to do things that change the world. Even if after they do that, they turn to the Dark Side, if they've left something behind that is good, perhaps that is all they were born for; that one single good thing that changed everything...like Dr. Richard Daystrom, and the Duotronics breakthrough that profoundly changed computer science forever.

The time you're living through is without precedent. On many fronts, fundamental changes to how man interacts with man are at the fingertips of every person of every class. How could you shrink from this challenge? How could you not see yourself in the rôle of an active participant bound for glory (Excalibur final scene: Arthur kills Mordred).

How can you not...get this?

For those of you alive in the early days of the iPhone, you may remember a tool called "Cydia".

This tool was in fact the first "App Store" for iPhone.

Cydia was written by Jay Freeman (Saurik) in 2008 and was for jailbroken iPhones.

It allowed users to install apps, tweaks, and modifications not available on Apple's App Store, all from developers without Apple's approval.

Jailbreaking your iPhone meant that you had essentially full control over it, including being able to run a root shell on it, no restrictions whatsoever; it was just like a UNIX machine in your hand.

Knowing this (and I've said it before) anyone interested in having an iPhone and Android ecosystem where users are transformed into owners of their devices, requires a new class of App Store not owned by Google or Apple, and that is very popular.

There are App Stores for Android other than Google, but they're not as popular as the Google Play Store, and that's not surprising at all, because no normal person is interested in it leaving the fenced area.

That being said, it should be possible with the proper marketing to create an ecosystem that can compete with the "Two Party State" of Google and Apple.

This would solve many of the problems caused by large companies run by people unconcerned by Ethics and user's rights and lives. In this new ecosystem, for example, it would not be possible to have a bitcoin wallet banned, or removed.

If all of this is true (and it is) then the question becomes why has no one picked up on the threat of App Store removal of Bitcoin Wallets, and why have they not acted to either create a new default App Store ecosystem or boosted an existing Alternative App Store ecosystem with a large cash injection?

And you're even more without excuse if you already have access to billions of people through existing business and user relationships to jump start a new ecosystem.

Upon launch of this ecosystem, it would mean that every developer of Bitcoin Wallets for Android would be delisted from Google only to re-appear on the new "Liberty App Store Library" where they are published with the features the developers desire and used on terms acceptable to both user and developer.

How hard can it be?

One thing is for sure; simply complaining about Google trying to kill Bitcoin Wallets is not going to change anything.

And obviously every Android app developer would flock to this new ecosystem to publish their apps so that more people would download them. It would grow almost by itself.

As for the Apple App Store, well...I guess if they go through with banning Bitcoin Apps, if you want to use Bitcoin your own way, you have to get a 'Droid.

This is exactly like banning SSL for all applications where the owner of the user's app isn't identified.

The French tried to impose this in the 1990s, but once SSL was everywhere, it was impossible for France to implement it, despite building a regulatory and storage framework to register all SSL private keys.

SSL keys can be generated at will almost instantly by anyone without any technical skill. It happens every time you install a browser or set up a server.

Sound familiar?

That's what happens when you download and open a Bitcoin Wallet. It's exactly the same in nature.

Now an absurd ban is proposed for Bitcoin wallets, and it's pretty obvious this would happen in the, "Then they fight you" stage.

This is why I've been harping on about spreading bitcoin everywhere as quickly as possible, so that it becomes a global default that cannot be revoked without killing the internets.

This is also why I've been working to re-contextualize bitcoin away from what people mistake it for to something more like what it actually is.

No one thinks SSL is "encryption"; they think it is "security". Similarly if people think bitcoin is money, then they will think about it as if it is money, as if you "receive" bitcoin, and all other money analogies.

If this false categorization by Google of Bitcoin wallets doesn't go through, the next attempt surely will. Unfortunately, people with power can't seem to understand long term strategic thinking in this area, despite the history of Public Key Encryption tool adoption being widely known.

A necessary prerequisite to bitcoin being everywhere is the distribution of it to billions of people. That's what we're doing at Azteco. When we succeed in doing this, bitcoin will be a common as SSL Certs in your browser.

And no, it will not be enough to simply build tools that use bitcoin; you can't use bitcoin without getting it, and that is the task many people simply run away from rather than confront head on.

Things that seem to be very large, very bad problems can be completely eliminated. Faketoshi is the most recent example, but there have been many others, like the RSA Munitions Export case. Bitcoin can win and come out unscathed.

It will take dedication to make it happen and people who can think for themselves and make up their own minds about what sort of future they want to be a part of building for mankind.

The bitcoin distribution problem is being effectively solved by Azteco, with 700m people being given access to bitcoin in a way that no real bitcoiner could possibly oppose.

It didn't take many people to solve the big problems; technical ones like Public Key Cryptography, PGP (Zimmerman), Bitcoin (Satoshi), BitTorrent (Bram Cohen) and many others. Your only question for yourself is this, "Am I a part of the solution or the problem?".

And if you think you can build a paralell society on App Store Apps that will help billions of people, you are completely delusional.

If App stores can ban Bitcoin wallets, they can ban your sneaky chat app, which, because it doesn't mediate bitcoin, can't change the world, and even if it could mediate bitcoin transactions, cant do so unless people can get bitcoin to use on it, and if they can, that will surely cause an App store ban, because it will be an "Unlicensed Bitcoin Wallet", however they want to define that.

At some point, as has been in the past, a problem must be solved directly. With SSL, it was the rapid proliferation of browsers and the browser as the default interface to all eCommerce.

The same thing needs to happen with Bitcoin; bitcoin must be the default way billions of people spend online, and the way to do that is to seed the global population with small amounts of bitcoin.

When commercial interests merge with the interests of billions of people, you get a platform that completely resists arbitrary change that doesn't serve the people's or commercial interests.

This is what must happen with bitcoin, and it can happen, and happen very rapidly.

It is already proven that the small number of fanatical coders and capitalists have the power to change everything. This is why GPG exists, why GNU/LINUX exists, why WhatsApp and Signal exist and why bitcoin, Samourai and other tools exist. Someone has to do the work, someone has to promote the tools, someone has to rise to the challenge.
The perpetually giggling, unserious, threadbare, faddish, cowardly, distracted, unintelligent, eloiesque, "Main Character Syndrome" actors who are too frightened to even say the name "Samourai Wallet" are collaborators with the system they claim to despise and be against.
For all of this, bitcoin will succeed and usher in the world these people are too frightened to talk about and don't even know they need. Just imagine this. Azteco distribution reaches 628,000,000 users, 240,000,000 on Razer. A Nostr app does an integration with Azteco to ingest its vouchers; all those users are now potential users of those apps if promotion is done to pour those new users on to them.

Well meaning people who've grown up in INGSOC believe that the optics of opposition politics is what will keep Bitcoin users safe from regulation. They're 100% wrong.

Listing companies that people should use because they're "unregulated" or "outside the law" only generates scrutiny targets. It doesn't help anyone, and actually has another, hidden purpose.

People love to rally behind the underdog; what they're trying to do is create the next "Assange", or "CND", or "Occupy Wall Street" that they can be the heads of, so that they're constantly being interviewed and getting their profile raised in the Mainstream Media.

This will increase "Membership" in their organizations, opening the door to future employment in the "Compliance" departments of the companies they "defended", or will allow them to contract out consultancy roles for their companies.

Think Rico and BitLicense as examples.

And of course, being the de facto heads of "the Industry", not only will they scrape up money, but they'll be directly consulted on the rules to govern the companies they "represent", ensuring permanent roles for themselves in perpetuity.

If you should refuse their offer of consultancy, they will threaten you that you will not be aware of upcoming changes and will not have a, "Seat at the Table" to protect yourself from predation, as they have a direct line to the violent thugs who could shut you down.

Not going along with them will be portrayed as being an outsider with something to hide, as the people representing the industry will be for "transparency" and "Society".

This is exactly how this matter works. It is not about the law or right or wrong; it is about making jobs for people who can't write software and who are not able, for whatever reason, to form companies to serve other people directly

Paper ballots and invigilation are all that is required to run a fair and fully auditable election, and the introduction of computers to the methods and execution of elections is nothing more than tech / futurist cultism.

The UK ID card is not what you think it is. It is not a simple identity document like your passport or driving license. It is in fact, a database backed control grid and the fulfilment of Orwells nightmare.

You may have heard that legislation creating compulsory ID Cards passed a crucial stage in the House of Commons. You may feel that ID cards are not something to worry about, since we already have Photo ID for our Passport and Driving License and an ID Card will be no different to that. What you have not been told is the full scope of this proposed ID Card, and what it will mean to you personally.

The proposed ID Card will be different from any card you now hold. It will be connected to a database called the NIR, (National Identity Register)., where all of your personal details will be stored. This will include the unique number that will be issued to you, your fingerprints, a scan of the back of your eye, and your photograph. Your name, address and date of birth will also obviously be stored there.

There will be spaces on this database for your religion, residence status, and many other private and personal facts about you. There is unlimited space for every other details of your life on the NIR database, which can be expanded by the Government with or without further Acts of Parliament.

By itself, you might think that this register is harmless, but you would be wrong to come to this conclusion. This new card will be used to check your identity against your entry in the register in real time, whenever you present it to 'prove who you are'.

Every place that sells alcohol or cigarettes, every post office, every pharmacy, and every Bank will have an NIR Card Terminal, (very much like the Chip and Pin Readers that are everywhere now) into which your card can be 'swiped' to check your identity. Each time this happens, a record is made at the NIR of the time and place that the Card was presented. This means for example, that there will be a government record of every time you withdraw more than £99 at your branch of Nat West, who now demand ID for these transactions. Every time you have to prove that you are over 18, your card will be swiped, and a record made at the NIR. Restaurants and off licenses will demand that your card is swiped so that each receipt shows that they sold alcohol to someone over 18, and that this was proved by the access to the NIR, indemnifying them from prosecution.

Private businesses are going to be given access to the NIR Database. If you want to apply for a job, you will have to present your card for a swipe. If you want to apply for a London Underground Oyster Card,or a supermarket loyalty card, or a driving license you will have to present your ID Card for a swipe. The same goes for getting a telephone line or a mobile phone or an internet account.

Oyster, DVLA, BT and Nectar (for example) all run very detailed databases of their own. They will be allowed access to the NIR,just as every other business will be. This means that each of these entities will be able to store your unique number in their database, and place all your travel, phone records, driving activities and detailed shopping habits under your unique NIR number. These databases, which can easily fit on a storage device the size of your hand, will be sold to third parties either legally or illegally. It will then be possible for a non governmental entity to create a detailed dossier of all your activities. Certainly, the government will have clandestine access to all of them, meaning that they will have a complete record of all your movements, from how much and when you withdraw from your bank account to what medications you are taking, down to the level of what sort of bread you eat - all accessible via a single unique number in a central database.

This is quite a significant leap from a simple ID Card that shows your name and face.

Most people do not know that this is the true character and scope of the proposed ID Card. Whenever the details of how it will work are explained to them, they quickly change from being ambivalent towards it.

The Government is going to COMPEL you to enter your details into the NIR and to carry this card. If you and your children want to obtain or renew your passports, you will be forced to have your fingerprints taken and your eyes scanned for the NIR, and an ID Card will be issued to you whether you want one or not. If you refuse to be fingerprinted and eye scanned, you will not be able to get a passport. Your ID Card will, just like your passport, not be your property. The Home Secretary will have the right to revoke or suspend your ID at any time, meaning that you will not be able to withdraw money from your Bank Account, for example, or do anything that requires you to present your government issued ID Card.

The arguments that have been put forwarded in favour of ID Cards can be easily disproved. ID Cards WILL NOT stop terrorists; every Spaniard has a compulsory ID Card as did the Madrid Bombers. ID Cards will not 'eliminate benefit fraud', which in comparison, is small compared to the astronomical cost of this proposal, which will be measured in billions according to the LSE (London School of Economics). This scheme exists solely to exert total surveillance and control over the ordinary free British Citizen,and it will line the pockets of the companies that will create the computer systems at the expense of your freedom, privacy and money.

If you did not know the full scope of the proposed ID Card Scheme before and you are as unsettled as I am at what it really means to you, to this country and its way of life, I urge you to email or photocopy this and give it to your friends and colleagues and everyone else you think should know and who cares. Bitcoin was written to supersede these weak people and to constrain them and their “votes” and it will succeed. Just watch.

In the meantime, by all means waste your time on niche fad networks that will not move the needle, while men with huge platforms and guts liberate hundreds of millions of people to change the world. The UK ID card is not what you think it is. It is not a simple identity document like your passport or driving licese. It is in fact, a database backed control grid and the fulfilment of Orwells nightmare.

You may have heard that legislation creating compulsory ID Cards passed a crucial stage in the House of Commons. You may feel that ID cards are not something to worry about, since we already have Photo ID for our Passport and Driving License and an ID Card will be no different to that. What you have not been told is the full scope of this proposed ID Card, and what it will mean to you personally.

The proposed ID Card will be different from any card you now hold. It will be connected to a database called the NIR, (National Identity Register)., where all of your personal details will be stored. This will include the unique number that will be issued to you, your fingerprints, a scan of the back of your eye, and your photograph. Your name, address and date of birth will also obviously be stored there.

There will be spaces on this database for your religion, residence status, and many other private and personal facts about you. There is unlimited space for every other details of your life on the NIR database, which can be expanded by the Government with or without further Acts of Parliament.

By itself, you might think that this register is harmless, but you would be wrong to come to this conclusion. This new card will be used to check your identity against your entry in the register in real time, whenever you present it to 'prove who you are'.

Every place that sells alcohol or cigarettes, every post office, every pharmacy, and every Bank will have an NIR Card Terminal, (very much like the Chip and Pin Readers that are everywhere now) into which your card can be 'swiped' to check your identity. Each time this happens, a record is made at the NIR of the time and place that the Card was presented. This means for example, that there will be a government record of every time you withdraw more than £99 at your branch of Nat West, who now demand ID for these transactions. Every time you have to prove that you are over 18, your card will be swiped, and a record made at the NIR. Restaurants and off licenses will demand that your card is swiped so that each receipt shows that they sold alcohol to someone over 18, and that this was proved by the access to the NIR, indemnifying them from prosecution.

Private businesses are going to be given access to the NIR Database. If you want to apply for a job, you will have to present your card for a swipe. If you want to apply for a London Underground Oyster Card,or a supermarket loyalty card, or a driving license you will have to present your ID Card for a swipe. The same goes for getting a telephone line or a mobile phone or an internet account.

Oyster, DVLA, BT and Nectar (for example) all run very detailed databases of their own. They will be allowed access to the NIR,just as every other business will be. This means that each of these entities will be able to store your unique number in their database, and place all your travel, phone records, driving activities and detailed shopping habits under your unique NIR number. These databases, which can easily fit on a storage device the size of your hand, will be sold to third parties either legally or illegally. It will then be possible for a non governmental entity to create a detailed dossier of all your activities. Certainly, the government will have clandestine access to all of them, meaning that they will have a complete record of all your movements, from how much and when you withdraw from your bank account to what medications you are taking, down to the level of what sort of bread you eat - all accessible via a single unique number in a central database.

This is quite a significant leap from a simple ID Card that shows your name and face.

Most people do not know that this is the true character and scope of the proposed ID Card. Whenever the details of how it will work are explained to them, they quickly change from being ambivalent towards it.

The Government is going to COMPEL you to enter your details into the NIR and to carry this card. If you and your children want to obtain or renew your passports, you will be forced to have your fingerprints taken and your eyes scanned for the NIR, and an ID Card will be issued to you whether you want one or not. If you refuse to be fingerprinted and eye scanned, you will not be able to get a passport. Your ID Card will, just like your passport, not be your property. The Home Secretary will have the right to revoke or suspend your ID at any time, meaning that you will not be able to withdraw money from your Bank Account, for example, or do anything that requires you to present your government issued ID Card.

The arguments that have been put forwarded in favour of ID Cards can be easily disproved. ID Cards WILL NOT stop terrorists; every Spaniard has a compulsory ID Card as did the Madrid Bombers. ID Cards will not 'eliminate benefit fraud', which in comparison, is small compared to the astronomical cost of this proposal, which will be measured in billions according to the LSE (London School of Economics). This scheme exists solely to exert total surveillance and control over the ordinary free British Citizen,and it will line the pockets of the companies that will create the computer systems at the expense of your freedom, privacy and money.

If you did not know the full scope of the proposed ID Card Scheme before and you are as unsettled as I am at what it really means to you, to this country and its way of life, I urge you to email or photocopy this and give it to your friends and colleagues and everyone else you think should know and who cares. The Bill has proceeded to this stage due to the lack of accurate and complete information on this proposal being made public. In the end, if Bitcoin is the money everyone is using, the State will have to start accepting it for the payment of taxes.

This will have many advantages for the state, as they can "Micro Tax" activities; something that is beyond the ability of the Geriatrics to conceive.

The only question is how long is this going to take, and who is going to do it.

Unfortunately the first generation of Bitcoiners cannot make this argument. In their enthusiast's mindset, desperate to wake people up to the power of Bitcoin, they used convenient analogies to persuade and explain what Bitcoin is. Many of them were not technical or computer literate, and so the field was salted and poisoned.

These dangerous analogies have now been taken as fact, in fact, they're almost held as sacraments of the Bitcoin Cult. Thankfully it is not them that need to be the target of the recontextualizing and cleansing of the narrative.

And it will most probably be a years long cleansing rain and plowing under of the soil that's required, so that crops of new Bitcoiners can grow who are free from the poison Bitcoin Cult.

When this happens, it will be worth it for all the people who opted to tell the truth and not lie about Bitcoin. And worth it means gaining hundreds of millions of users and transacting many many Bitcoin.

There is also the humanitarian element to consider.

Anyone mischaracterizing Bitcoin is participating in the restricting of Bitcoin to western hands. Without going hyperbolic about the true nature of this thinking and its results, let's just say there is a bad word that describes these people and their thinking.

There are literally billions of people who have a strong need of Bitcoin, and they can only be reached by treating Bitcoin by its nature, just as Skype and WhatsApp reached billions by not categorising their services as telephony.

Why You Can’t Understand Bitcoin

Here are some of the reasons why people can’t understand Bitcoin. It’s taken years to dispel the many myths, misunderstandings and lies that have swirled around Bitcoin. Here is what ails the stragglers.

Computer Illiteracy
You can’t understand Bitcoin because you are Computer Illiterate. This means you have little to no understanding of how your devices or accounts work, and very probably have no interest either. You use Microsoft Windows, “Because its the Standard” . You don’t care how things work as long as they appear to work. You defend your ignorance like the Beavers shore up their dams.

This class of user is a massive problem, not only because they are computer illiterate; most people can get along without knowing the intricate details of the tools they use. They are a massive problem because they are computer illiterate, and they insist on “having their say” about Bitcoin, how it should be treated by market actors, by developers and how Bitcoin itself works.

Crypto Illiteracy
You can’t understand Bitcoin because you are Crypto Illiterate. You don’t encrypt your email, despite knowing that the State and other attackers can and do read all your emails and look at your photos. You prefer wilful, blissful ignorance to easily obtained absolute security, and when pushed to explain why you behave in this irrational way, have only platitudes, fallacies and learned by rote garbage as a response.

This user presents a cultural challenge to anyone who wants privacy to be the default. Many great efforts, aside from the writing of privacy enabling software like GPG, have been undertaken for years, and its only now that that work is bearing fruit in the form of mass adoption on Instant Messaging platforms. There is a long way to go before we achieve total blackout, but now the light at the end of the tunnel is approaching.

Monetary Illiteracy
You can’t understand Bitcoin because you are a Monetary Illiterate. Monetary illiterates come in serveral forms, but there are a small number that are the worst of the worst, and they are responsible for the majority of what’s wrong in this category; Keynesians and Statists. Keynesians believe that the money supply must increase forever. This is a lie. It’s like arguing that the number of numbers must increase over time because the number of things you need to measure is always increasing.

This user of government money is a problem to anyone who wants a stable economy and an end to the warfare state. The inflationary fiat currencies in use today are toxic to liberty, prosperity and peace, and this was one of the reasons Bitcoin was developed; to create a money that was separate from the State, economically sound, global and irrevocable. Monetary illiteracy is what stops people clamouring for sound money. They have no idea they are being robbed on a daily basis. If they understood what was being done to them, it would be pitchforks and bonfires in every world capital.

Statism
You can’t understand Bitcoin because you are a Statist. A Statist is a man or woman who believes that only the State should be the final arbiter of every activity man can engage in. In Bitcoin, Statists are a constant irritant and lethal toxin. Their belief that people should be forbidden from sending messages to each other over a public network is un-American and completely irrational. You don’t need to identify yourself to use WhatsApp, and its messages are fundamentally no different to Bitcoin; its encrypted with the same “tech” Bitcoin uses, yet these Statists can’t explain why the latter should require a passport to use and the former does not.

This user is delusional, violent and extremely destructive to human progress. She believes everyone must be dragged down to her level of base stupidity, and is very often a monstrous admixture of all the bad qualities listed above and below, increasing her toxicity. Once again, these people are not content to wallow in their own mud; they insist on dirtying and contaminating everything they touch with their error, making it increasingly difficult to get work done, make progress, integrate seamlessly with the market and help humanity. Eventually these people are always swept away by the flow of history, but when they are at their peak, they are a constant chafing, sore making irritant.

Clinical Paranoia
You can’t understand Bitcoin because you are Clinically Paranoid. People with paranoid personality disorder are very suspicious of other people. They often feel that they are in danger, and constantly look for evidence to support their irrational suspicions. They have trouble seeing that their distrustfulness is out of proportion to their environment. There are many people like this, who will (for example) immediately select only the perceived flaws in a new device or service, rather than the obvious benefits. In Bitcoin, an example of this would be immediately pointing out that it can be used by criminals to pay debts. Once again, this demographic overlaps with some of the other categories listed here.

This user is highly distracting and negative, and they exist in every generation. The same class of individual made bogus, unsubstantiated claims the State had broken PGP (it never did) and today, they claim that Bitcoin is broken (it isn't) or that some vendor with a radical new design is vulnerable to an abstract Straw Man Flaw (nonsense). It appears that we will be stuck with these types forever as there are always insane people in every generation, and the only way they can be shut up is if mass adoption of the trigger for their paranoia makes it socially unacceptable to spread FUD. The Fall of Anti-Bitcoin

As I’ve said many times before. Everyone and every nation will eventually capitulate to Bitcoin. The latest nation to capitulate is Great Britain, whose army of anti-Bitcoin propagandists has just received orders from The Motherland that Bitcoin is to be fully embraced.

For years, Frances Coppola has been one of the most strident, steadfast and consistent anti-Bitcoiners. You could rely on her to provide every irrational pretext for rejecting Bitcoin; every trope, misreading, propaganda line and pretext. She Podcasted against Bitcoin, wrote articles against it, and did everything you saw and would expect a hard core anti-Bitcoiner to say and do.

And now look at her.

In this BBC piece on Bitcoin, the entire narrative has turned 180° from “skepticism” to “Bitcoin is the future and we are now embracing it”.

Because America is embracing it.

Understand that this is just the first part of the total capitulation of Great Britain to Bitcoin. Frances says Bitcoin is good, “As a store of value” after having spent years saying that it is the opposite of a good store of value, “Because it is volatile”.

Bitcoin hasn’t changed. Frances has changed.

The capitulation narrative begins by conceding ground bit by bit. First they concede that Bitcoin is a store of value, next they will concede that it acts just like money and can be used for small, everyday transactions. They have no choice but to concede this.

For years I have been gently trying to persuade The British Government in public and private to take a rational stance on Bitcoin, precisely to avoid the 100% predictable outcome you are seeing today. Which is another country will be the leader in Bitcoin.

Right now, that leader is El Salvador, that has fully embraced the “Consumer Bitcoin” ecosystem by making it Legal Tender. The USA is a close second because the SEC was forced to capitulate by a court order to allow “Free People” to do math and make promises (Bitcoin ETFs).

El Salvador is missing the financialization part, and the USA is missing the Consumer Bitcoin part. Either one of these great countries could do both and take the lead; it all comes down to legislation and leadership.

What we can say for sure is that Great Britain will not be able to catch up now. They were warned 10 years ago by me:

There are many Bitcoin infrastructure and consumer facing companies that started in Britain and left (Azteco is one of them) and that were shut down by the imposition of the most insane rules you could not imagine in your worst nightmare.

Wallets run by incorporations in the UK were told that they must not only KYC their users, but that they must also KYC the users who send Bitcoin to their users who are not their users!

I’m not making this up. The FCA has done a thorough job of killing any nascent Bitcoin startup running in the UK, dissuading companies not in the UK to do business from there and generally being a constant irritant. The receipts are available, obviously.

Watch now, as orders coming from on high cause the FCA to 180° on Bitcoin in a desperate, pathetic attemtpt to stanch the flow of brains from Britain.

It’s too late.

Not only did the FCA make it impossible to run a Bitcoin company in Britain, they deliberately made it impossible for any financial rails company to do business with a Bitcoin company.

I can tell you from first hand observation that all financial rails companies, even very big ones, are all terrified of the FCA, and will scarcely take a piss in their own offices without checking if the FCA allows it.

It therefore was impossible to run a Bitcoin business from inside Britain. That was the entire idea.

Now that that policy is abolished, you can expect a huge Public Relations campaign to be launched to try and induce Bitcoin Businesses to relocate in Britain.

They are going to have a hard time convincing anyone.

Why should anyone running a Bitcoin business incorporate in Britain when you can incorporate in El Salvador and be guaranteed that you not only have a stable, safe, First World level country, but that you will not, as a Bitcoin company, be taxed?

You’d have to be BARMY to risk putting down stakes in Britain when incorporating in El Salvador is a matter of a phone call.

And while we’re at it, as a suggestion, El Salvador must partially deregulate its banking sector, or it will lose this race forever.

What can you expect next from Frances Coppola in terms of narrative capitulation?

You can expect her and her class to concede that Bitcoin for consumers is a good thing, and that it can be used not only just as easily, but more safely for both consumers and business globally.

She will concede that Lightning is a real thing, and that on it, the entire world can use Bitcoin. She will concede that the Unbanked will all be put on Bitcoin. She will capitulate in everything she has said against Bitcoin, and abandon the prosaic, poetic pretexts for its failure, like, “The value of Bitcoin is exogenous” and other similar guff.

You were all told this was coming, and you refused to listen, either because your culture is anti entrepreneur, or because you were told to lie about Bitcoin in a vain attempt to prevent it from spreading.

Either way, you all failed.

Now the inevitable is inevitable. Bitcoin is going to do EXACTLY WHAT BITCOINERS SAID IT WAS GOING TO DO and there IS and was NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.

There is no inducement now that can be offered to any Bitcoiner to incorporate in Britain. That ship has sailed, like the ships taking the first colonists to New England.

Slowly but surely, Lummis & Co. are starting to get it, but they’re not anywhere near close enough to fulfilling their oaths.

First of all, there is no such thing as a “Crypto Asset” this is a portmanteau a made up phrase borne of backward analogies computer illiterates have constructed to give their arguments form.

As soon as anyone says the phrase "Crypto Assets", you know you’re dealing with an ignoramus, in the strict Latin sense of that word: “Know Nothing”.

Users who have control over private keys do not have “custody” of Bitcoin. The word “custody” is another analogy used to encapsulate the idea that these users don’t have to ask another person to sign a message on their behalf.

No one “custodies” Bitcoin at all; there are no “Bitcoins”.

You can blame the idea that Bitcoins are like actual coins from the retarded use of the gold coin images that have polluted the minds of politicians and many others. This money imagery is the cause of the widespread confusion over what Bitcoin actually is, which is not money, but a messaging and database system.

It is simply not true that “transactions are processed on the user’s local device”. Bitcoin signatures do not require a device at all, and can be made with a pencil an piece of graph paper.

It is not true that Bitcoin’s rebellious, DIY, mid-seventies-like, Cypherpunk era is over.

The exact opposite is true.

Bitcoin was written after the mid-seventies Home Computer revolution took place and “ended”, putting the power of software development in everyone’s hands at a cost of essentially zero. Before that, to develop and run software, you had to book time on a large UNIX machine at a University, and that was only possible if you were enrolled as a student at an institution with a computer. Computer illiterates don’t know any of this important context and history.

Bitcoin was written on widely available, ubiquitous commodity computer equipment available from Walmart to Radio Shack. It was written in programming languages that were free and on operating systems that came for free with the machines they ran on. None of this was true previously; the cost of a commercial software license for AT&T UNIX was $30,000, out of reach for all but companies and educational institutions. Even the single user license of $150, whilst not an impediment for the die hard, was eliminated when Bitcoin was written by GNU. Universal availability of computing made the software development revolution possible. It meant that anyone anywhere could write software without permission, admission to University or supervision of any kind, and then they could distribute to anyone anywhere it without permission at a cost of near zero.

In the early days, software was distributed by mail order on floppy discs. Then it was distributed by BBS systems over telephone calls modem to modem. Now it is distributed over the Internet, for free. The commodification of computers and elimination of the cost of tooling to write software, remote connecting and expanded access to every form of intellectual pursuit in software from game development to book writing and research.

Can you see what’s coming next?

Universal access to programmable synthetic money in the form of Bitcoin will mean that anyone anywhere will be using Bitcoin. Nation States, hedge funds and sovereign wealth funds’ are irrelevant to this, and will continue to be downstream of the innovators from the public, just as they were and are with the Internet, email and Bitcoin. Nation states, hedge funds and sovereign wealth funds did not develop Bitcoin (or email or the web), and could not have developed it. They could not have imagined any of them, nor had they the skill to implement it. (See Paul Krugman’s predictions about the Internet being no more important than the Fax machine, or his most recent predictions about Bitcoin. What a joke!) The members of their impotent class will be, at best, peers on the network, like everyone else is. They are no longer special, privileged or required. At all.

That’s the whole point of Bitcoin, in case you didn’t know.

Jeremy Alaire famously said many years ago of the Bitcoin ecosystem, “It’s time for the grown ups now”. He was 100% wrong, and ended up peddling altcoins and unethical stablecoins because the immovable and immutable object “Bitcoin”, resists partially informed incomers with their clever plans to improve it. This feature of Bitcoin (and it is a feature, not a flaw) is what is currently being missed by FinTech bros, WallStreet Wonks, tenacious tangentials and other people who have just come to the ideas that spawned Bitcoin; reality no longer operates by proclamation of the self anointed.

It is a good thing that a small number of Americans are finally capitulating to Bitcoin, however in addition to capitulation, their parochial “Policeman of the World”, “my way or the highway”, “our institutions and governance models are the only possible way forward” mindset is best abandoned by them; no one on Earth wants to hear it, everyone is fed up with them, Bitcoin can’t hear it, and all real Bitcoiners ignore it.

The subconscious urge to control everything is strong in many characters; this is why rebellion is cast in a negative light by Statists. Change is not rebellion. Change is the essential process of all existence. Change is coming to what money is and how it is mediated, and in this change, the old players are removed from management, oversight, design or input of any kind. They are excluded. Look at Nostr for another example. While everyone downstream of Twitter as consumers complained bitterly about it, one man decided to offer a possible solution to it. No one saw it coming, or even thought it possible. Now, like it or not, an ecosystem has the very real potential (because it is real) of emerging on it, where the people using it cannot be told what to do or say.

This is exactly analogous with what happened with Bitcoin. Wall Street Wonks complaining bitterly about “the corrupt system” could not imagine Bitcoin, and then Bitcoin…existed, and now it cannot be stopped, like it or not, and its nature will not be changed because Bitcoin’s rebellious, DIY, mid-seventies-like, Cypherpunk era is not only not over but will never end. This is a safe prediction to make; look at how features of the web are developed, through the IETF process. The people at the coal face are doing the hard work of fundamental design, and corporations have nothing to do with it beyond paying the salaries of the designers; the “big players” don’t have a say in how things actually work.

Apple learned this the hard way by trying to introduce a new protocol called “AppleTalk.” Launched in the mid-1980s, AppleTalk was designed to facilitate networking in Apple environments, allowing Macintosh computers to connect and share resources seamlessly. Despite its initial success within Apple’s ecosystem, AppleTalk struggled to gain broader acceptance due to the dominance of other networking protocols like Ethernet and TCP/IP. Over time, as the industry standard shifted towards TCP/IP, Apple gradually phased out AppleTalk, officially discontinuing support for it in 2009. “2009”...a special year, wasn't it? This is exactly like Wall Street trying to “take over” Bitcoin and change it. It cannot happen, and there will be no “The Grownups are Here Now” moment in Bitcoin. History indicates this strongly, but you have to know your history in order to understand this.

These are just a few of many examples showing the nature of the change and who is being excluded as a consequence. Everyone who has the power to create software and services is fed up to the back teeth with being told what they are, what they can do, what they can say, how they must implement software tools, and being on the bottom rung of the perverted “Society” where Nation states, hedge funds and sovereign wealth funds have control over what money is and how it is allowed to move.

Whenever you hear an American say, “things are bad in Bitcoin”, several things are inevitably true.

They think America and its “SEC” are the only powers on Earth.

The future will be planned, developed and run by men and women with guts who build and invest in companies that build the future. This has always been true. Open Source is not a cult or a hat you can wear while you gush on a “Podcast” or hide in a ghetto echo chamber.

History shows that Closed Source Software can dominate because the public has no interest in “Open Source”, and most advocates for it can’t put aside their pride to push companies that refuse to pander to infantilism and nonsense.

Winning in the market means embracing the rules of the market; that means promoting the good guys if you have a voice, not just Virtue Signalling to your audience. It means building companies and serving people, not just talking about it endlessly. Thankfully there are a handful of men and women who understand this and who are making the sacrifices required so that others can claim success for other people’s work.

This is true in Bitcoin obviously. No one cares that it is Open Source, and if a closed source copy comes to market that harms consumers, “CBDCs”, just as Micro$oft dominated, CDBCs will dominate…but don’t feel bad; fanboys will post on Nostr from their Windows laptops that “THE OPEN SAUCE REVOLUTION IS COMING!”.

People who refuse to promote Bitcoin companies but cheer on the names of the tools and philosophies and who refuse to invest in companies are the sort of person you should strive not to be, if you want to see the problems Bitcoin was written to fix get solved. And by the way, those problems can be solved by closed source tools; it’s a safe bet that most of the people drooling over Open Source and requiring it for their tools are not developers and can’t write “Hello World” in C.

It is entirely wrong to expect one man to change his character and "rescue" the world; the need for heroes is a character flaw many suffer from. That being said, the need for heroes doesn't prevent math from working, and the equation here that sums to zero applies to the affairs of Elon Musk.

And for the record, Bitcoin, Bitcoiners, the billions of people on earth who need sound money and all things like that will continue and thrive without Elon Musk, and WorldCoin, CBDCs, fiat money and every other anti-Bitcoin machination will fail.

Layer 2 doesn’t have to be non custodial; this is an anti-consumer Bitcoin Cult Narrative that doesn’t take practicality or Bitcoins future into account.

The Cult doesn’t care about utility for ordinary users; all they care about is the narrative on paper in specifications.

Wallet of Satoshi is growing fast and is super reliable, serving the consumer brilliantly. Users needing long term storage can leverage other tools that are non custodial.

Solving people’s problems is key; they need both to spend AND to store. Specifications on paper are not the way to judge the benefits of designs for consumers; fulfilling the needs of real people is the actual test.
